Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Out Through All-Star Break

Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee Bucks Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will be sidelined for at least another week with a calf injury that has already kept him out of the lineup since February 2. He has been out three consecutive contests. This injury will not allow Antetokounmpo to participate in next Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game. He was selected to his ninth All-Star Game a few weeks ago.

Antetokounmpo was in MVP form before his injury. He is second in points per game, fifth in rebounds, and eighth in field goal percentage. How will the Milwaukee Bucks fare in the absence of Antetokounmpo?

Milwaukee Bucks Season Summary

It has been a disappointing regular season for the Bucks. They are 27-23 and the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Even before Antetokounmpo went down with injury, the Milwaukee Bucks were not playing well. They have lost five of their last six games and their defense has been horrendous. The Bucks had a four-game losing streak where they surrendered 131.5 points per game. The San Antonio Spurs hung 144 points on Milwaukee  handing them a 26-point loss with Antetokounmpo in the lineup.

Milwaukee’s marquee move at the NBA Trade Deadline was acquiring Kyle Kuzma in exchange for Khris Middleton. Milwaukee’s offense is 12th in points per game, seventh in field goal percentage, and second in three-point percentage. Their aforementioned defense has been strong overall, even with a terrible stretch. They are 14th in points per game, fourth in opposing field goal percentage, and ninth in opposing three-point percentage.

Final Thoughts

Milwaukee returns to the court for a Sunday matinee against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bucks’ final two games before the all-star break are a home game against the Golden State Warriors and a road contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Until Antetokounmpo is healthy enough to return, Point Guard Damian Lillard will have to hold down the fort. The Milwaukee Bucks need a healthy Antetokounmpo to make any noise in the Eastern Conference.
