It’s been a tremendous season for the Milwaukee Brewers so far. The team entered the week leading its division with the second-best record in MLB.
However, the Milwaukee Brewers have once again lost one of the pitchers that was integral to the team’s plans for winning a second-straight National League Central title. A playoff participant in five of the past six seasons, the Brew Crew are now left with just three pitchers in its regular starting staff.
Wade Miley, who began the season in the injured list with a left shoulder injury, was placed back on the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation. He had made just two starts this season.

Miley was struggling to shake off the rust through his two starts this season. In his last start, he lasted just three innings after allowing four runs on four hits in a 6-3 loss to the San Diego Padres. It is not currently known if the elbow inflammation has any relation to the left shoulder pain that forced him out of spring training in March. He spoke to reporters about the injury combination, saying:
“I thought it was getting better. Some of the swelling got out of there. Threw a little bit yesterday. It wasn’t great. Then tried to go throw today. Was kind of the same deal. Hopefully can take some time and get it figured out. Spent the whole spring working on the shoulder, now this pops up. I feel like I’m doing everything I can to stay on the field. It’s frustrating.”
The 37-year-old hurler, in his second season with the Milwaukee Brewers, has dealt with bone spurs in his elbow earlier in his MLB career. However, he said his current malaise doesn’t feel the same, telling reporters:
“This is a little different. I still feel what I used to feel. I’ve got some added pressure in there. Hopefully, it’s just inflammation, pinching around the nerve. We can get it out of there and be fine. Just have to start with the imaging to check all the boxes. I’m thinking it’s just more inflammation from the bone spurs, moving around in my elbow a little bit. Hopefully nothing too serious. But like I said, until we get some more information, it’s really hard to say.”
A Rash of Pitching Injuries for Milwaukee Brewers

Miley’s IL assignment came a day after the Milwaukee Brewers lost another of his staffmates to injury. On Sunday, the team placed DL Hall on the IL with a left knee sprain.
The news got worse for the team on Monday,as starting pitcher Jakob Junis, currently on the IL with a shoulder impingement, was hospitalized after being hit in the neck with a ball during batting practice. Junis has been traveling with the team as he recovers from the injury, and was on the field at PNC Park prior to a Monday night game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Junis was taken to a hospital in an ambulance. The Milwaukee Brewers issued a statement saying:
“He is conscious, alert and responsive. He was sent to the hospital for further evaluation.”
