Milwaukee Brewers Calling Up Star Prospect For Life-Changing Debut On May 10

Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher Robert Gasser is set to make his MLB debut on Friday.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced Thursday they are calling up their No.5 prospect. He is also the No. 8 left-handed pitching prospect in Major League Baseball. Starting Pitcher Robert Gasser is set to make his MLB debut on May 10 against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals.

Gasser struggled this season as a member of the Nashville Sounds (AAA). He was 0-1 this season with an ERA of 5.25. He was much better in 2023 when he was 9-1 with a 3.79 ERA in AAA. He led AAA pitchers with 166 strikeouts last season.

How will Gasser fare in his MLB debut?

Robert Gasser Career Summary

Gasser was drafted No. 72 overall out of the University of Houston by the San Diego Padres in the 2021 MLB Draft. Gasser was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022 in a blockbuster deal for All-Star Closer Josh Hader.

He has a career record of 16-14 in Minor League Baseball.

What Will Gasser Bring To The Milwaukee Brewers Rotation?

Gasser features five pitches in his repertoire (fastball, sinker, cutter, slider, and changeup). He has never struggled with control at the minor-league level and hopes to bring that sense of control with him to Major League Baseball.

Milwaukee has seen their starting rotation bitten by the injury bug early in the 2024 season. Gasser will be the 10th Milwaukee Brewers player to start a game for the team. Starting Pitcher Freddy Peralta was suspended for five games for his role in a bench-clearing brawl last week against the Tampa Bay Rays. Other starting pitchers on the shelf include Wade Miley, DL Hall, and Jakob Junis.

Starting Pitcher Colin Rea has been a bright spot for the Milwaukee Brewers this season. He is 3-0 with an ERA of 3.29. Milwaukee is 19th in the league in ERA, surrendered the seventh-most home runs, and struck out the third-fewest hitters in all of baseball. Once Milwaukee has their full complement of pitchers back, their starting rotation would become much more formidable.

Brewers Offense Carrying The Team In 2024

With such an injury-riddled pitching staff this season, the Brewers have needed to rely on their offense to win games. The Brewers(21-15) are tied atop the National League Central with the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee has scored the ninth-most runs in the league, are sixth in home runs, and seventh in batting average.

The Milwaukee Brewers offense is led by Catcher William Contreras. He is top 10 in the league in both batting average (.329) and RBI (29). Milwaukee’s offense will need to continue playing well for the team to reach its fullest potential in 2024.
