TaylorMade Signs 15-Year Old Miles Russell Who Broke Tiger Woods Record

Miles Russell

High school freshman Miles Russell has a contract with TaylorMade. The 15-year-old Russell was named the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rolex Player of the Year – breaking a record set by Tiger Woods.

High School Freshman Breaks Tiger Woods’ Record

Life is good for 15-year-old high school freshman Miles Russell. It’s not often that anyone breaks a record set by Tiger Woods, but Miles Russell did it. Breaking the record for the youngest boy ever to win the AJGA Rolex Player of the Year Award. At 15 years and two days old, he bested Tiger Woods’ 32-year-old record by ten months.

While Russell is the youngest boy to win the title, he’s not the youngest winner ever. Three times, a 14-year-old has won the Girls’ honor. LPGA star Inbee Park was the youngest ever, winning when she was 14 years, four months, and 21 days old in 2002.

Many Future PGA Stars Won the Award

Miles Russell joins an impressive list of future stars who won the award as junior golfers. In addition to Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns, Brian Harman, and David Duval have all hoisted the hardware. Now, he’s signed a lucrative NIL deal with one of the top golf manufacturers – TaylorMade. Financial terms were not disclosed, but what teenager wouldn’t love to be paid for using a product he already loves? In a statement, TaylorMade called Russell “nothing short of remarkable.”

“Miles Russell’s record-setting success at his young age is nothing short of remarkable, and we are excited he chose us to support him in his growth as a golfer and continue to accomplish his career goals. Identifying and developing the top junior talent in the world has always been a priority for us at TaylorMade. Miles and his family epitomize the type of athlete and human being we are looking to add to Team TaylorMade.”

Youngest Winner of the Junior PLAYERS Championship

Russell’s impressive play on the golf course has set many records lately. At 14, he became the youngest player ever to win the Junior PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The same course where the PGA Tour holds the annual PLAYERS Championship – often called “the fifth major.”

Russell made his first start in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic. After carding a first-round 68, Russel became the youngest player to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at 15 years and five months old.

After signing the deal with TaylorMade, Miles Russell released a statement: “I have had a great relationship with the team at TaylorMade for years now and couldn’t be more excited to continue to work with them in the future. TaylorMade has a history of developing the top junior talent in the world to help reach their goals of becoming PGA TOUR and major championship winners. I am looking forward to working with the team to reach those and other goals I have laid out for my career.”

Will Miles Russell be the next Tiger Woods? Considering Wood’s greatness, that’s asking a lot, but a long, lucrative career on the PGA Tour seems well within reach.
