Mikel Arteta’s side has had a good start to the season so far. As they’ve managed the difficult games they’ve faced so far. However, in those games, they’ve faced a lot of criticism for their pattern of play in securing the needed points. A prominent one was their clash against City.
When the Gunners went a man down. Mikel Arteta instructed his team to sit back against Man City. Which nearly helped them to salvage a win. After the game a lot of strife happened between the Arsenal players and also Pep Guardiola’s players. The fight had also caused a lot of rumors of a possible fight between Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola. However, Mikel Arteta has spoken and affirmed he and Pep are close friends and they respect each other very well.
Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola History
The two Big managers have worked together at Man City. Mikel Arteta was an assistant to Pep Guardiola. This was during Pep’s early years as City’s manager. However, after some time Arteta left Man City and Pep to coach Arsenal. During the period Arteta tried his best to lift the Gunners team. This took a lengthy period, till Arsenal became a team worth challenging for a major trophy. And when Arteta’s team started challenging for a trophy Pep Guardiola was his main rival.
In their last game against the other, there was a serious rift between the two teams. However, Arteta has tried to clarify it didn’t affect his relationship with his Fellow compatriot.

Mikel Arteta had initially made some statements that got Pep Guardiola misunderstood. However, the Arsenal gaffer has come out openly to clarify that.
He said: “I can repeat it very clearly, I love Pep, I have admired him since I was 10 years old. I respect him profoundly I am so grateful for everything he did for me and continues to do with me, I consider him a friend. I love and I respect every member of the staff there because I worked with them for four years, and when I say I know them, it’s I know how hard they work.”
Arteta continued: “I haven’t seen a human being work as hard as Pep, and the coaches and everybody in that football club to be consistently winning, and the reason they are there is because they maintain that hunger and this is exactly what I learn and exactly what I mean.”
Arteta on his Relationship with Pep
The Arsenal manager further clarified the misunderstanding between both of them. He then went ahead to explain how much he respects the former Barcelona coach. He said: “It cannot be any more clear than that. If you want I can repeat it, if someone wants to damage a relationship that’s not in my hands. That feeling is profound, he knows it, the staff knows it. I still maintain today with them, with the board, with the ownership, with everybody, and if it not it wouldn’t be genuine and it is.”.
He finally added: “If someone wants to play something else for me the sport has to be about who will win, they have it, I have it, we have it, for sure because we haven’t done it. They have it even if they want it more than anybody else, we have to learn and it has to be inspiring for us and it is for me and that’s what I mean because I have been there. It is remarkable and it’s an incredible achievement because they have that mentality. Hopefully, that is clear.”
