Mike Tyson and His Risky Comeback: Facing Jake Paul in High-Stakes Battle

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson has a fight against Jake Paul set for Nov. 15. The fight will be aired on Netflix to over 250 million subscribers. However, the fight is creating a lot of publicity. Calling this a professional fight has triggered lots of discussion.

His fans and critics are concerned and fearful that he could take his fifth career loss, especially having been out of action for two decades. At 58, Tyson is raising concerns as knockout predictions for his upcoming fight add to the growing worries.

Mike Tyson and the Evander Holyfield Comparison

Mike Tyson’s return is being compared to Evander Holyfield’s 2021 comeback disaster. The then-58-year-old Holyfield was knocked out by former UFC fighter Vitor Belfort in just one minute, nine seconds. Ironically, while physically Holyfield was in peak form, his motor coordination was very poor and his punch-absorbing skills were worse. Belfort is 44 now and far from his prime, Belfort easily defeated the aging boxing star, making it look convincing. Fans are now concerned that Tyson could be next.

Although Mike Tyson looks in the best physical condition ever, some have likened him to a “Greek sculpture.” Nevertheless, aging is a big factor here. His training videos feature him in form but many want to know if 10-second clips are possible in 10-round professional boxing. He should take the Holyfield incident as a serious warning, especially when fighting a relatively younger fighter like Jake Paul.

Can Tyson Keep Up in the Ring?

The only fight Mike Tyson fought in 2020–an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr.—did not bring much joy to fans of older athletes and was a draw. The two fighters “clinched” for more time than they exchanged blows on the gloves. He was 58 years old and could get easily tired even in two minutes, let alone being out of active boxing for four years. His age also makes it a problem and given that he is not very active, many question if he has what it takes to fight.

Jake Paul is only 27 years old. He can hardly be considered out of shape. Although he is already far ahead of Tyson, who is almost 60 years old. It has emerged that critics are not so sure that this fight could be safe and would like to know why Paul took the time to propose such a fight to him. When Paul is permitted to deliver the maximum force of the punch, the chance of Mike Tyson getting injured jumps higher.

Potential for Disaster

The fight between Holyfield and Belfort can be viewed only as an example of what may happen. Belfort threw a hook at Holyfield with his first punch and one realized that the latter had no defense at all. If Mike Tyson experiences the same problem then the result would be disastrous. The audience that will tune in will be interested in seeing if either fighter will be able to knock out the other, however, the question that has to be asked is whether or not Tyson should be getting into the ring at his age.

Tyson has lots to benefit from the event at the AT&T Stadium but fans are expecting the worse. Of course, he was in a wheelchair two years ago and had a relapse of a stomach ulcer in May. So while the cash may be enticing, Tyson’s health and, consequently, his reputation are at stake.
