The Michigan Wolverines got devastating news when star safety Rod Moore went down in the spring with a knee injury. It was reported to be an ACL injury, and the defensive back underwent surgery in late April. Many assumed he was done for the year, but that might not be the case. It seems that Moore might be trying to make a return to the field in 2024.
Michigan Wolverines Rod Moore To Return In 2024?
There are a few breadcrumbs that signal Rod Moore is trying to return this year for the Michigan Wolverines. The first is that while 247 reported the injury as an ACL tear, no one in the Wolverines program confirmed it. We saw this in the NFL this offseason. Green Bay Packers edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare reportedly tore his ACL at the end of the season but was active during OTAs. Head coach Matt LaFleur said no one ever said it was an ACL injury and he will be back this season. Moore could follow a similar path if it was only a partial tear or a different injury.
Defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan also made some interesting comments on the In The Trenches podcast. He said Rod Moore “might not be able to play the first half of the season.” While this could mean nothing, it is interesting he didn’t completely slam the door on a return. In late May, head coach Sherrone Moore said he was “ahead of schedule.” The Michigan Wolverines would love to have Moore on the field, even if it was for the second half of the season.
Second Half Of The Season
While the Michigan Wolverines have tough games throughout the season, getting Rod Moore back for the second half would be huge. The Wolverines play for six straight weeks before getting a bye week on October 12. If Moore has about a six-month recovery, that puts him back on the field in late October. He would then be back for games against Oregon, Michigan State, and Ohio State, as well as some other Big Ten conference games. It would be a huge boost for a defense that will try to slow down some potent offenses.
The Michigan Wolverines have plenty of talent on the roster, but having Moore back on the field would be a huge boost. His leadership and big game experience would be huge for many players who would be getting their first taste. All of these comments may mean nothing, but this will be a storyline to watch, especially if the Wolverines are competing for a Big Ten championship in 2024.
