Michigan Wolverines Continue Recruiting Hot Streak; Land 3-Star Wide Receiver

Michigan Wolverines land Nate Marshall, Ivan Taylor, Phillip Wright, Andrew Marsh

Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore has been on a recruiting hot streak. Last weekend, he flipped a four-star safety from Notre Dame and also landed a four-star tight end. These were two top-100 recruits in 2025 and have caused Michigan to shoot up the rankings. Moore wasn’t done. This weekend, he landed three-star wide receiver Phillip Wright.

The Michigan Wolverines beat out Georgia and LSU for the wide receiver out of Louisiana. This is excellent news for the program. It is often easy to recruit close to home. The Wolverines are starting to make headway in the territory of the SEC. If Moore can establish some pipelines, it would be huge. Phillip Wright is a three-star receiver, and 247 has him as a top-100 wideout in the class.

Don’t let his three-star status fool you. Scouts have raved about his big play ability whether it is by stretching the field or on catch-and-run situations. Reports indicate he has a 40-yard dash time of 4.39 seconds. It has been a while since the Wolverines have had this type of speedster. They have had great receivers, but they have been more big and dominating rather than small and fast.

Focus On Wide Receivers

While the Michigan Wolverines have been dominant over the past two years at many positions, the wide receiver hasn’t been one of them. There were quality guys, but nothing game-breaking. This wasn’t a huge deal as the team leaned on their elite running game and offensive line. Head coach Sherrone Moore seems to have a vision for a more dynamic offense. Phillip Wright is the second wide receiver in the 2025 cycle.

They have already landed 6-foot-3, 180-pound wide receiver Jacob Washington. If they can continue gathering elite weapons, the Wolverines could have one of the best offenses in college football. It would be a huge welcome for a program that is looking to stay atop the college football world.

Better Than Harbaugh?

Jim Harbaugh was beloved by the Michigan Wolverines faithful. There is no denying his success at the program. The former offensive coordinator has a chance to be even better. He is flexing his recruiting muscles, showing that he can collect talent. Moore has built a staff that is focused on recruiting, which is critical in the modern college football landscape.

Everyone seems to be discounting the program this year. To be fair, they did lose some huge parts of their team like JJ McCarthy and Blake Corum. However, their head coach has shown he can win big games. We won’t have to wait long to see how this team looks. The Texas Longhorns come to the Big House early in the season, and it will be an early test to see if the Wolverines can hang with the best of the best in college football.
