Michigan Wolverines Flip 4-Star Defensive Lineman From Auburn

Michigan Wolverines flip Nate Marshall back to the program

The Michigan Wolverines have been having a great few weeks. They flipped the top overall recruit in the 2025 class, quarterback Bryce Underwood. Then, they pulled off one of the greatest upsets in program history, taking down the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus despite being 20-point underdogs. The good times keep rolling as recruits are taking notice of the program. They got a surprise flip today that should excite the fans. Four-star defensive lineman Nate Marshall announced he had flipped his commitment to Michigan.

Michigan Wolverines Flip Nate Marshall

Marshall is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound edge out of Chicago, Illinois. 247’s Composite Rankings have him as the 55th-ranked recruit in the 2025 class. He had been committed to the Auburn Tigers since August but decided to switch his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines. His name might sound familiar to Michigan fans. He was originally committed to come to Ann Arbor last April but decided to switch his commitment. What a difference a season makes. He must have liked what he saw out of the Wolverines this year. 247’s Allen Trieu had this to say about Marshall.

“Has a background that includes basketball and offense, where he sometimes splits way out wide and can be effective playing from that spot. Carries that athleticism over to defense where he is comfortable in space and pursuit. Can change directions and chase down plays. Shows motor and does not give up on plays. Shifts from outside to inside and has played up and down the line. Carries his weight very well so could continue to pack on pounds and be a combo guy in college.

Does not currently have bad weight. Long-term projection is likely most likely as a five-tech but that depends on physical development. Combo of athleticism and versatility make him a high-end prospect. Has to continue developing from a technical standpoint with his hands and get stronger, but he looks like he will be a starter for high-major program and has the baseline tools to play beyond college.”

This is a huge boost for the Michigan Wolverines recruiting class, and it could lead to the team getting back into the national championship conversation sooner than many expected.

2025 Recruiting Class

On3 has the Michigan Wolverines ranked 7th in the 2025 recruiting rankings. It puts them third in the Big Ten conference behind Oregon (6th) and Ohio State (3rd). However, the Wolverines are not done in the recruiting cycle. Experts have predicted many others will commit to the program in the coming weeks. Sherrone Moore has shown that he can recruit well, and the victory over Ohio State has enticed many players to join the program. Furthermore, if there is a coaching change in Columbus, the Buckeyes could tumble down the rankings.

On The Field

What makes these commitments more exciting for the Michigan Wolverines is what the coaching staff has been able to do with the talent they have. Michigan went 7-5 this year despite having subpar quarterback play. In the win against Ohio State, Davis Warren threw for 62 yards. They dominated with their run game and defense. Moore and his staff crafted a gameplan every week that gave the team a chance to win. People are excited about what the coaching staff can do with top-tier talent.

Recruiting often has a snowball effect. Once one player decides to come on board, others take notice. Moore and his staff have been busy on the recruiting trail, and it is paying off. After Jim Harbaugh left, many thought the program was left for dead. The win to end the regular season has rejuvenated the program, and they hope Nate Marshall will be one of the many top players who decide to become a Wolverine in 2025.
