The Michigan Wolverines have been riding high for the past few weeks. Even though the team struggled this year, there were some huge positives. The team pulled off a massive upset by beating Ohio State in Columbus, knocking their rivals out of the Big Ten Championship. They also flipped the top overall recruit in the 2025 class, quarterback Bryce Underwood. Things are looking up, and the Wolverines still went 7-5 this year. Sherrone Moore and his staff aren’t done adding to the quarterback room. Chase Herbstreit, son of ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, has committed to Michigan.
Michigan Wolverines Land QB Chase Herbstreit
The young Herbstreit is not a highly ranked prospect. Many sites do not have him ranked, though On3 has him tabbed as a three-star recruit. According to many of the recruiting sites, he did not have any offers, indicating he is coming to Ann Arbor as a preferred walk-on. The big reason why this makes the news cycle is because of who his father is. Kerk Herbstreit is one of the voices of college football and Thursday Night Football.
What makes this even more of a story is the senior Herbstreit was a quarterback at Ohio State. The fact that his son chose his alma mater’s arch-rival will surely be a talking point at family gatherings. However, don’t mistake this for a nothing story. The fact a player is choosing to go to a school where he will not be the guaranteed starter speaks volumes. The Michigan Wolverines coaching staff must be doing something right.
2025 Outlook
We don’t know the times and dates of the games, but we do know the opponents of the Michigan Wolverines in 2025. In non-conference play, the Wolverines will invite New Mexico and Central Michigan to the Big House. They have a tough early road test, heading to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. Once Big Ten play begins, they play a normal schedule. There are some easier games with some tough ones sprinkled in. They have three road tests that will be tough. Michigan has to travel to USC, Michigan State, and Nebraska next year.
The good news for the Michigan Wolverines is they get Ohio State, Washington, and Wisconsin at home. Next year’s team will have more talent courtesy of some great work on the recruiting trail by Moore and his staff. Landing another quarterback is always good because you never know what will happen once a season starts. The future is bright in Ann Arbor and Michigan fans look forward to being back on top of the Big Ten soon.
