Michigan Wolverines Predicted To Return To CFP

The Michigan Wolverines have been a staple of the College Football Playoff for the past three seasons. Behind a dominant defense, they have dominated the Big Ten and been a lock for the final four. This year, the team has more questions. Jim Harbaugh and many of their best players left for the NFL. However, there is still plenty of talent on the field for new head coach Sherrone Moore. One analyst predicts Michigan will be back in the CFP for the fourth straight year.

Michigan Wolverines To The CFP?

Trent Knoop of Sports Illustrated gave ten bold predictions for the Michigan Wolverines in 2024. He is clearly high on the team as he predicted players on both sides of the ball to have huge seasons. The last prediction is that the team will lose many of their big games but still make the now expanded playoff.

“Michigan has three major games on its schedule this season: vs. Texas, vs. Oregon, and at Ohio State. I’m predicting a win against Texas with losses coming to both Oregon and the Buckeyes. But with 10 wins, the Wolverines would make their fourth-consecutive College Football Playoff birth.”

The Michigan Wolverines have a difficult schedule in 2024. The new-look Big Ten is full of elite teams, and they are expected to take a slight step back. However, because 12 teams now have a chance at the national championship, it isn’t out of the question they are able to nab an at-large spot due to the talent level on the field.

2024 Expectations

The Michigan Wolverines are playing with house money. They won the national championship last season. While they still want to continue dominating, they have much less pressure than many of their rivals. Ohio State, for example, is under immense pressure to win it all, given the talent on the roster. If the Wolverines can make it to the CFP, that will be considered a huge win.

The biggest question for the Wolverines is the offense. On defense, they still have elite pieces all over the field, but questions remain about the quarterback position. The good news for whoever wins the job is they have Donovan Edwards in the backfield, whom Knoop predicts will have 25 total touchdowns on the year. It will be an interesting season for Michigan as they go through a transition period. If they can dominate again, this could be one of the next great dynasties in college football.
