Michigan Wolverines Name Captains For 2024 Season

Michigan Wolverines land Nate Marshall, Ivan Taylor, Phillip Wright, Andrew Marsh

The Michigan Wolverines are about to begin their quest to defend their national championship. While no one expects them to win it all again in 2024, they will not be pushovers by any means. There is still plenty of talent on the field and new head coach Sherrone Moore has already proven he can win big games as a head coach. The season is weeks away, and the Wolverines named their four captains for the 2024 campaign.

In a surprise to no one, senior running back Donovan Edwards is one of the four team captains. He was the MVP of the Big Ten Championship game in 2022. He and Blake Corum created one of the best backfield duos in the nation. Now, he will be the featured back in Ann Arbor. Another senior, fullback Max Bredeson, was named a team captain. While he doesn’t fill up the stat sheet, his blocking is essential in Michigan’s dominant run game.

On the defensive side of the ball, a pair of safeties will be captains for the Michigan Wolverines. Rod Moore will likely miss the season with a knee injury, but that didn’t stop the team from naming him a captain. While he can’t be on the field, his leadership on the sidelines could prove invaluable. Rounding out the captains is graduate safety Markari Paige. The Michigan Wolverines also named two alternates, senior Kalel Mullings and senior Josaiah Stewart.

2024 Expectations

The Michigan Wolverines expect to still be competitive in 2024. Their schedule has some tough games. Texas comes to Ann Arbor in week 2. Then, once the Big Ten play starts, games against USC, Oregon, and Ohio State will be on the schedule. The good news is that USC and Oregon are in the Big House. While those are the only ranked opponents, the Big Ten is full of quality teams that the Wolverines cannot overlook.

The Michigan Wolverines still have an elite defense now led by seasoned defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. He is known for his blitzing tendencies, so expect Michigan to get after the quarterback. On offense, the quarterback question is the big issue. As of the writing of this article, Moore has yet to name a starter. If the quarterback play is subpar, the Wolverines may stumble in big games this season.

It should be a fun season for Michigan Wolverines fans. After winning it all last year, they are playing with house money. However, too many people are writing them off completely. The team should stay competitive, and it would not be surprising if they found themselves back in the College Football Playoff in 2024.
