Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore is on a hot streak. After taking over for Jim Harbaugh, Moore kept the team intact and started building for the future. He was already fielding a top 25 class in the 2025 recruiting cycle, but over the weekend, he was able to secure a couple of huge commitments. Four-star safety Ivan Taylor flipped his commitment from Notre Dame. Shortly after that, it was announced that four-star tight end Andrew Olesh had committed to the team. After those commitments, the Wolverines jumped in the 2025 recruiting rankings.
Michigan Wolverines Jump In 2025 Recruiting Rankings
Before the two four-star recruits committed, the Michigan Wolverines were sitting somewhere in the low 20s, according to 247. Now, 247 has them knocking on the door of the top ten. They are currently 11th, with 15 players committed to the program. Both Olesha and Taylor are top 100 recruits in the 2025 cycle, so it isn’t a surprise that Michigan took a leap in the 2025 recruiting rankings.
The Michigan Wolverines are now fourth in the Big Ten in the rankings. Penn State is one spot ahead of them at number ten. College football powerhouses Oregon and Ohio State currently have top-five classes as well. However, Michigan hasn’t fielded a top recruiting class in the past decade. This hasn’t stopped them from being one of the best teams in the sport and winning a national championship.
Historic Class Incoming?
If Sherrone Moore and his staff keep this up, the Michigan Wolverines may have a historic class coming in 2025. Recruiting often has a snowball effect. Once one top recruit commits, others follow. Players want to compete on the biggest stage. In order to do that, teams have to be in the mix for the College Football Playoff. Players go to the programs that can acquire the talent and put a good product on the field. The Wolverines have proven they can do that.
The 2025 recruiting cycle is far from over. Sherrone Moore and his team have the right messaging for players. If Moore and his staff can show they can still compete for a championship this season, it could mean more players flocking to Ann Arbor.
2024 Outlook
The Michigan Wolverines have many big games on their schedule in the new-look Big Ten. The good news is many of their toughest games are at home. In non-conference play, they play the Texas Longhorns in their second game of the season. In Big Ten play, games against USC, Oregon, and Michigan State are all at home. Their toughest road games are having to travel to Washington and Ohio State at the end of the season.
While it is unrealistic to expect the Michigan Wolverines to win another national championship, it isn’t out of the question for them to be one of the best teams in college football. They have to answer the quarterback question, but if they can get above-average play at that position, the team has the talent to compete. Regardless of what happens this season, the Wolverines are set up for the future, thanks to Sherrone Moore and his team.
