Miami Marlins Designate Former All-Star For Assignment In Shocking Move

Miami Marlins Jake Burger has been on fire recently.

The Miami Marlins announced earlier today they Designated Shortstop Tim Anderson for assignment. Anderson has struggled in his first year in Miami hitting .214 with zero home runs, and nine RBI. He signed a one-year $5 million deal with the Miami Marlins this offseason. He looked to rebound in Miami, but instead was having a career-worst year.

Anderson will need to find a new home in the second half of the regular season, but will first need to prove himself down at the AAA level. Where will Tim Anderson play again next?

Anderson made his MLB debut in 2016 as a member of the Chicago White Sox. He spent the first eight years of his career in the “Windy City” before playing 65 games this season as a member of the Miami Marlins. Anderson is a two-time MLB All-Star(2021, 2022) and won the Silver Slugger Award in 2020. He also finished seventh in AL MVP voting in 2020. Jose Abreu, his teammate in 2020, won the award that season.

Anderson is a career .278 hitter with 98 home runs and 347 RBI.

Miami Marlins Season Summary

The Marlins(30-54) are in last place in the National League East and have the fourth-worst record in the league this season. They have struggled both at the plate and on the mound in 2024. They are 23rd in the league in batting average, last in home runs, and 29th in runs scored. Their pitching staff is 26th in ERA, 24th in strikeouts, and 26th in opposing batting average.

The Miami Marlins have yet to announce who will take Anderson’s place on the diamond. Possible replacement options are Vidal Brujan and Xaview Edwards. It looks like another lost season for the Miami Marlins, and Anderson will look to find another home in MLB and resurrect his career. The team is expected to be sellers at the July 30 MLB Trade Deadline.
