Miami Heat In Crisis Following Jimmy Butler Trade

Miami Heat

The 2024-25 regular season has been a miserable one for the Miami Heat. The saga regarding the team and Star Forward Jimmy Butler cast a shadow over them that is still impacting them. Heat President Pat Riley suspended Butler multiple times earlier this season. The two also met before the NBA Trade Deadline to try and clear the air. That meeting did not go well. Butler maintained his desire to longer play for the Miami Heat.

Ultimately, Butler got his way and was traded to the Golden State Warriors last week in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. Even with the Butler cloud lifted from the team, the Miami Heat have struggled on the court. They are 0-4 since they traded away Butler. Miami has lost three of the four games by double figures as they have looked listless at times. Will the Miami Heat be able to turn things around in the second half of the regular season?

Miami Heat Season Summary

Even though it has been a rough stretch for Miami, they are firmly entrenched in NBA Play-In Tournament territory. They are 25-28 and the No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference. Butler’s lack of consistency has impacted Miami’s offense. They are 24th in points scored, 22nd in field goal percentage, and 14th in three-point percentage. Tyler Herro is the franchise’s lone representative in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.

Fortunately for the Miami Heat, their defense has been able to keep the team afloat this season. They are seventh in points allowed, 10th in opposing field goal percentage, and 13th in opposing three-point percentage. Miami has a decent roster but will not be able to accomplish anything this season if their offense continues to be one of the NBA’s worst.

Final Thoughts

Miami has a week to regroup as they look to play better over the second half of the regular season. Their road trip continues against the Toronto Raptors on February 21 and back-to-back road tilts on February 23 and 24 against the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks respectively. If Head Coach Erik Spoelstra can lead this team to postseason success, it could be the best coaching job of his illustrious career.
