Miami Dolphins vs. Seattle Seahawks Week 3 Preview

The Miami Dolphins will travel for the first time this season to battle the Seahawks in Seattle for week three. The Dolphins have played two consecutive games at home, rallying to a late win against the Jaguars and falling to the Bills. The Seahawks hold a 2-0 record, however, there are questions surrounding their overall execution. Defeating the Denver Broncos and Patriots by just one possession each, Seattle looks to put on a stronger performance against their third straight AFC opponent.

The stage is set for an epic showdown as the Seahawks will look to continue the winning momentum and make it 3-0 in Week 3. On the other hand, the Dolphins have the pressure to avoid a second consecutive defeat this season.

Miami Dolphins Must Learn To Win Without Tua

The Miami Dolphins offense, led by Skylar Thompson, will challenge an injured Seahawks defense in Seattle. Tua Tagovailoa is scheduled to miss a minimum of four games, so Thompson will need to find any weak spots he can find in the NFC West leader.

The Seahawks have listed rising star Kenneth Walker III as doubtful and the former Miami Dolphin Jerome Baker. Seattle’s 2023 sack leader, Boye Mafe, is also entering the weekend questionable. See Seattle’s full injury list here:

Out: OLB Uchenna Nwosu (knee), RT George Fant (knee)

Doubtful: RB Kenneth Walker III (oblique), LB Jerome Baker (hamstring)

Questionable: OLB Boye Mafe (knee), OLB Derick Hall (hip), S K’Von Wallace (shoulder), TE Pharaoh Brown (foot), WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (foot)

The Seahawks’ already questionable run defense will be shorthanded against the explosive ball carriers of Miami, offering an avenue of success for the Mike McDaniel offense. Skylar Thompson has a level of athleticism and speed that Tua does not have, expect him to use it in Seattle.

Seahawks Keys In Matchup Against Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are injured as well, however, key figures like Jalen Ramsey and De’Von Achane appear to be ready to play. The Seahawks need to mitigate the Dolphins’ run-heavy game plan by capitalizing on turnover opportunities and outpacing with efficient scoring. With the injury to George Fant, Seattle is down to their third-string right tackle, so Geno Smith will need to keep himself protected against the Miami Dolphins.

In Seattle’s season opener against Denver, Walker racked up 103 yards on 20 carries before exiting in the fourth quarter with an abdominal injury. With Walker sidelined this past Sunday, backup running back Zach Charbonnet struggled against New England’s formidable run defense, gaining only 38 yards on 14 attempts. Both the Seahawks and Miami Dolphins hold a top-five run defense in the NFL going into the game.

Final Thoughts

The Miami Dolphins will be the underdog in every matchup until Tua Tagovailoa comes back or they prove they can win without him. However, the Seahawks are just a couple of plays away from being 0-2 to mediocre teams. This matchup will tell fans a lot about both Seattle and the Miami Dolphins.
