The Miami Dolphins’ Week 6 bye couldn’t have come at a better time. It provided a much-needed break as they’ve been battling injuries throughout the 2024 NFL season. They are entering a turning point in the season as Tua Tagovailoa’s return appears imminent. Heading into their key matchup in Indianapolis against the Colts, Fins faithful were updated about key injuries by the Dolphins coaching staff.
Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver With Injury Updates

Ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Colts, Miami Dolphins Defensive Coordinator Anthony Weaver provided injury updates on Linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah and Safety Javon Holland. Weaver expressed optimism that Ogbah would play and hopeful Holland would as well. Both players have been crucial contributors to the Miami Dolphins.
Holland has started every game in 2024 and has tallied 22 tackles in his fourth season with the Dolphins. Ogbah, in his fifth year with Miami, has notched two sacks, 18 tackles, and an interception. The Miami Dolphins would warmly welcome their return from their bye week as they go to Lucas Oil Stadium to face the Colts.
Weaver has had a significant impact on the Miami Dolphins defense, transforming them into one of the most disruptive units in the NFL. Under his guidance, the Dolphins have excelled in critical areas, leading the league in limiting third-down conversions, allowing just 25.5% of attempts to succeed. His ability to make key halftime adjustments has been instrumental, as the defense has secured three fourth-quarter shutouts so far in 2024. Their pass defense has also thrived, ranking third in fewest passing yards allowed per game, while overall, they are top five teams in total yards allowed.
Miami Dolphins Full Injury Outlook
The Miami Dolphins were only missing two players from Wednesday’s practice, with veteran rest assigned to Pro-Bowlers Teron Armstead and Calais Campbell. Jovan Holland and Jordan Poyer were limited participants, and Head Coach Mike McDaniel said they won’t be rushing Holland to recover from his hand injury. Ogbah is still on a day-to-day basis, but he’s in good shape.
Despite being in the concussion protocol, Running Back De’Von Achane played the entire game and is expected to play in Week 7. Nine Colts players, including Center Ryan Kelly and Wide Receiver Michael Pittman Jr., did not practice. However, Quarterback Anthony Richardson went through a full practice and is anticipated to start on Sunday.
Final Thoughts
Miami’s hopes of making the playoffs will be mostly dependent on Weaver’s defense going into their Week 7 game against the Colts. The Dolphins, who currently have a 2-3 record, cannot afford to let the Bills’ improved 4-2 mark cause them to lose ground in the AFC East. They would remain competitive in the division and even their record at 3-3 if they defeated the Colts, especially while they wait for Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to return from injury.
Securing a win in Indianapolis would give the Dolphins momentum heading into Week 8 when Tua is expected to return. A Week 8 win against the Cardinals could set the scene for a pivotal AFC East matchup against the Buffalo Bills. As Weaver’s defense performs at an elite level and the team gets healthy, the Dolphins have a chance to remain in the playoff race. A strong showing in these coming weeks will be crucial for their postseason hopes.
