Miami Dolphins Place Super Star Tua Tagovailoa On Injured Reserve: Out 4 Weeks

Miami Dolphins Star Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins’ 2024 season hit a setback when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion during their Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills. Tua is coming off of being the NFL’s passing yards leader and leading the Dolphins to an 11-6 record. As speculation around his timeline career arises, the Dolphins release a huge update regarding how his availability this season will go.

Miami Dolphins Quarterback Will Miss Minimum Of Four Games

The Miami Dolphins eyed playoff and even Super Bowl aspirations, given the team’s talent. As of Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion diagnosis, the team’s objective is to stay afloat until his potential return. As of September 17th, South Beach fans have a potential return date for the left-handed marksman.

The #Dolphins are placing QB Tua Tagovailoa on Injured Reserve because of the concussion he suffered on Thursday night, per me and @MikeGarafolo. This is in order to give him ample time to progress through the stages of concussion protocol and meet with outside neurologists. The earliest Tua Tagovailoa could return is Week 8 vs the #AZCardinals, but the #Dolphins are adamant that there is no timetable as he works through a deliberate process and eventual return to play.” – Ian Rapaport via X.com

Regardless of the injury reserve timeline provided to fans, Tua’s concussion history gives a sensitive nature to his playing future.

Tua’s Uncertain Future With Miami Dolphins

Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2020 with the fifth overall pick out of Alabama, Tua Tagovailoa has already withstood numerous concussions in his short NFL career. Tagovailoa suffered two concussions early in the 22′ season, starting with a Week 3 game against the Bills, where he hit his head and scarily stumbled after the play. Days later, he sustained another concussion during a Thursday Night Football game against the Bengals.

The NFLPA later fired the independent doctor who cleared him to return. A third concussion in Week 16 of 2022 against the Packers forced him to miss the final two regular season games and a playoff game. Tua’s experience in the ’22’ season changed how the NFL identified and reported concussions in the future. He took the offseason recovering from his brain injuries and learning how to prevent them.

Impressively, Tua came back in 2023 to throw for 4,624 yards in 2023, leading the league in passing yards with the Miami Dolphins.

Final Thoughts

The Miami Dolphins are met with a difficult situation in regards of Tua Tagovailoa. After signing Tua to a four-year $212.4 million contract filled with guarantees in the 2024 offseason, the Dolphins must balance the well-being of Tua and the well-being of their business.

Ultimately the decision of the future of Tua Tagovailoa’s career rests with him. However, the Miami Dolphins can influence him in unselfish ways or fight him over nickels and dimes.
