According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Miami Dolphins now have two of the highest-paid wide receivers, Tyreek Hill, and their most recent extension, Jaylen Waddle.
One of their young stars agrees to a three-year extension worth $84.75 million, with $76 million guaranteed. His average salary makes him the fourth highest-paid wide receiver, receiving $28.25 million per year. His practical guaranteed money at $76 million ranks him third among all wide receivers, even more than Hill.
The Dolphins lock up their speedster till 2028, as they are looking for a run at the Super Bowl with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, most likely next up to get paid. With head coach Mike McDaniel, Miami is hoping their explosive offense with their speed leads to playoff success.
Miami Dolphins: Sign Jaylen Waddle to Extension

Schefter first reported the extension with the Miami Dolphins, as Jaylen Waddle is the next big receiver to get paid among the likes of A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Nico Collins (according to Spotrac).
The former 6th overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft has been a record-setter for the Dolphins despite dealing with a few injuries this past year. Miami picked up his fifth-year option earlier this offseason, as it was clear that an extension like this was coming.
Even with missing some time this past season and only playing 14 games in 2023, Waddle has surpassed over 1,000 yards each season of his NFL career. His 2022 season had him set career highs in receiving yards with 1,356 and 8 touchdowns.
His rookie season with the Miami Dolphins in 2021 was record-breaking, with 104 receptions among all rookie wide receivers before 2023 when Puka Nacua broke that record with the Los Angeles Rams.
Miami Dolphins: Is Tua Tagovailoa Next Up?

This Waddle extension could be a precursor to the Miami Dolphins extending their star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, as they reunited with his teammate from Alabama in 2021.
Miami also added depth at wide receiver, something they were lacking in 2023. So far this offseason, the Dolphins brought in veteran Odell Beckham Jr. and drafted two rookies on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft in Tahj Washington and Malik Washington.
The former fifth overall pick from the 2020 NFL Draft at 26 years old had a Pro Bowl season in 2023, as the passing yards leader will look to improve upon their success from last year. With Waddle’s contract secure and settled, the next big thing the Miami Dolphins will have to do is sign their franchise quarterback.
