Hardik Pandya Fined as MI Finish Last in IPL 2024 Standings: Harsh SetBack

IPL

A disappointing fourteenth position along with just eight points from 14 games meant that, for the Mumbai Indians, IPL 2024 was their second bottom-place finish in just three years. A devastating turn of events awaited Pandya.

He was imposed with a hefty fine and a match suspension for his slow over-rate during his team’s make-or-break encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium, which was played on Monday. This season has not been an easier one for my team, with inconsistent performances and time-losing blunders resulting in a devastating situation now.

Mumbai Indians (MI) and their leader Hardik Pandya had to face an unwanted penalty amount of Rs. 30 lakh levied against the team for slow over-rate, which resulted during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday night. The IPL’s official statement highlighted the severity of the penalty.

“Considering that the offense was the third such violation in the whole of the IPL season under their team’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offenses, Pandya was fined Rs. 30 lakh and banned from attending his team’s next match. ”

Moreover, the statement detailed the fines for other team members: The 11th member of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, each got either Rs. 12 lakh or 50 percent of their relevant match fees, whichever is meager. As an enforcer of over-rate regulation, such a heavy penalty highlights how the league maintains the pace and excitement of the game.

Nicholas Pooran’s Heroics Lead LSG to Victory

Nicholas Pooran had a great match, hitting a spiteful 75 from his 28-ball batting to bring the Lucknow Super Giants to the top spot. His RR of the innings also had him impacting on eighteen balls, which resulted in eight monster sixes, thereby making him the highest six-hitter (36) in IPL 2024.

Pooran’s skills assisted in providing a breath of life to LSG, lifting them from a terrifying 69 for the loss of three wickets in 10 overs and making them soar over the 200-run mark.

In the game, there was also a 45-minute rain break; however, LSG handled it out and beat the Mumbai team by 18 runs. Numerous heroic encounters from MI’s Rohit Sharma, who hit a scintillating 50, and the effort from Naman Dhir, who also contributed heavily with another 50, are too little for MI to win the chase.

Mumbai Indians’ disappointing season

IPL

The 2024 season of the IPL proved to be very difficult for the Mumbai Indians team. The final point tally of just eight points from 14 matches meant MI had their second-worst finish in just three seasons as they were placed at the bottom of the table again. The seventh place at the end of the league was indicative of shortcomings and squandered opportunities throughout the season.
