32-year-old Merab Dvalishvili claimed the bantamweight title with a victory against former champion Sean O’Malley at UFC 306. The battle happened in Las Vegas’s The Sphere on Saturday. The Georgian dominated the fight from the start and was relentless against O’Malley, thus making for a hard-earned win.

O’Malley was waiting for a chance and indicated to let him get back to his feet while leaving himself vulnerable to several punches. UFC president Dana White was asked a question about the aggression shown by Dvalishvili, and White answered that he didn’t understand at all. The kissing incident was followed by another round. After Merab kissed O’Malley on his back, Dvalishvili defended himself, arguing with referee Herb Dean that O’Malley’s corner was too noisy at the beginning of the fight.
Dana White said this about Merab Dvalishvili’s kiss in the press conference after the fight: “What happened was Merab and O’Malley’s corner were screaming at each other the whole beginning of the fight. Then Herb Dean stepped in and told them to knock it off. Then the kissing in the back and standing up and walking away before the bell? I have no idea, Merab does some s***. It was weird, but not shocking!”
Dvalishvili established constant dominance from the start of the match till the final grappling when the match turned in his favor. Later on, he boasted about being the number one fighter in UFC. After becoming Bantamweight Champion, he was given the chance to speak on the mike to the audience, and that proved to be his precious moment when he said that O’Malley was just a normal opponent for him.
