Mega IPL Auction 2024 Set for November with Global Twist

November is anticipated to see the much anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction for Season 18, most likely on the third or fourth weekend of the month. The IPL franchises have been informed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that this is a possibility and that the auction will most likely take place abroad. According to a resource, the location will probably be in the Middle East, much like it was last year.

The IPL auction was conducted in Dubai the previous year; it wouldn’t be shocking if it were held in another Gulf city, such as Doha or Abu Dhabi. It is also said that Saudi Arabia, which has recently made significant expenditures in cricket and other sports, is interested in holding the IPL auction. The location is still unclear at this time.

IPL Auction Likely To Be Overseas

IPL franchisees have responded cautiously to the news because they have not yet received the retention regulations in advance of the super IPL auction. Following their discovery by the BCCI that there might be a postponement in the release of these regulations, several franchise officials are concerned about their ability to adequately prepare for the auction.

According to recent reports, the retention guidelines might be revealed by the end of the month. It will give the teams two months to complete their IPL auction plans. It is anticipated that the clubs would have until November 15 to announce their retentions. Though they were finally able to pull it off last year (December 2023), the BCCI and IPL administrators have always planned to host the IPL auction abroad.

It is known that coaches who assisted Rahul Dravid with the Indian team will probably land jobs with different IPL teams in the interim. Trevor Penney, who might be allocated to the Royals’ CPL team, the Barbados Royals, could be replaced at the Rajasthan Royals by Vikram Rathour, the former batting coach of India, who may join Dravid. The former bowling coach for India under Dravid, Paras Mhambrey, is also predicted to sign with a team, though nothing appears to have been confirmed as of yet.

BCCI Eyes Overseas IPL Auctions

It has come to light that several former coaches have turned down offers to commentate, citing their desire to remain in coaching positions. Munaf Patel, the 2011 World Cup winner and former India pacer, is also predicted to accept a coaching position in the IPL this season. The IPL auction was held outside of India for the first time last year when it was successfully held in Dubai. It is also said that the BCCI has long wanted to hold the tournament overseas.

These ambitions, however, did not come to pass in prior years. It is anticipated that franchise retentions will close on November 15. Several policy changes. Given that this will be another massive IPL auction, some regulations, such as the return of a previous rule that declared retired players who had a five-year gap since their last international match, might be put into place.
