Max Holloway Reflects On TKO Loss and Plans Future Moves

Max Holloway will look to rebound and plan for future fights.

The former lightweight king and the BMF champion, Max Holloway, now stands at a crossroads in his career after getting knocked out by Ilia Topuria at UFC 308. This was a knockout not only in the octagon but in his career, although his coaches said that this is the nature of MMA athletes. They win and they lose.

However, Holloway does not give in, and his spirit is evident when he analyzes his experiences, admits to the harsh reality of the sport, and looks forward to other opportunities. While the MMA fighter spends an ample amount of time deciding his next fight, MMA fans are eagerly waiting for the next fight to see him in the octagon with his traditional moves.

Max Holloway Acknowledes the Loss

Max Holloway, in his post after the match, noted how he spent time and realized how the sport is brutal. He goes on to say he has had some “good highlights,” but he too takes his beating and becomes another man’s highlight. But he assured his fans, friends, and family that he was in good standing and a good mental state. In response, Max Holloway reiterated that he has more to accomplish in MMA and professed that he wanted new fights. This was evident in his post, where he received more than 465k likes and a little above 11000 comments to show that he wields influence within the UFC fan base.

Possible shift To Light 2

As for further plans, Max Holloway expressed interest in potentially returning to the lightweight division. He talked about a trilogy match with Dustin Poirier, who was stripped of the interim lightweight champion title, which is an expected fight. He has lost twice previously to Poirier. The first loss was a decision loss at UFC 236 in 2019 and the second one was a submission loss at UFC 143 in 2014. However, Max Holloway has kind words for Poirier and is ready for the third fight with him as he understands how much the counterpart appreciates him.

Final Thoughts

Looking at the next events in Max Holloway’s fighting career, he stated that he would like to be inactive for some time. He has laid down his plans to heal and plot a comeback, with an eye toward a return next summer, preferably during the International Fight Week in Las Vegas. This strategy is useful to him as he will be in a position to prepare to face the next challenges that he will face in the next contractual phase, more fully determined than before.

This is evident as Max Holloway was equally disappointed at UFC 308, but continues to bounce back. He still wants to be a part of MMA and is eyeing more great fights and important fights that would transform his future in the sport. The next step that is being anticipated by the fans for Holloway is to see this opponent come back again into the octagon and provide a more entertaining free-for-all fight from one of the UFC crowd favorites.
