Masters 2025 Dark Horse Candidates

2025 Masters

Who will play well in the 2025 Masters? It really could be anyone’s show. None of these golfers are here by accident. Yeah, we certainly have our favorites, but these guys are good. Who could come out of the woodwork and sneak a win? Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion. Rory McIlroy is hunting the Career Grand Slam, and John Rahm won in 2023. Any of them could surely take the Masters win for themselves, but who is out there that could swoop in and ruin their day?

Collin Morikawa Seeking a Masters Win

Morikawa is known for consistent play at Augusta National. This is in his comfort zone despite the high stakes. He is currently leading the PGA in strokes gained on approach shots. That’s a nice skillset to have at Augusta, crucial even for the challenging green that lay ahead of him. He’s had three consecutive top-10 finishes at the Masters in the last three years. He can only play that well at the Masters so many times before he nails it. Morikawa has shown top form in recent tournaments. He’s had five top-25s in as many starts including three top-10s and two runner-ups.

Jordan Spieth Could Be Due For another Masters Win

Jordan Spieth won the Masters in 2015. He surely has the ability; it is a proven fact. In 2023, Spieth underwent surgery on his left wrist and returned in February. He has shown flashes of getting back to form. He had a top 5 finish at the WM Phoenix Open, where he tied for 4th. He also top-10 finish at the Cognizant Classic and tied for 12th at the Valero Texas Open. Spieth has said of his injury that he has been “playing catch-up” to get back on top form. That being said I would not count him out just yet. His experience and cool head under pressure could allow him to make a nice showing at Augusta.

Viktor Hovland Full Head of Steam

Hovland’s recent win at the Valspar Championship has given him major momentum and a nice boost in confidence. In preparation for the Masters this year, he’s made some well-thought-out equipment changes. Hovland has reverted to his trusted Ping PLD DS72 putter. He has been hard at work practicing his chipping, pitching, and putting techniques. Hovland ranks 10th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained Approaching the Green, averaging 0.747. His proficiency in approach shots will be a major advantage.

Who Is Going To Win?

Who is going to win the Masters? Only time will tell, but I would pay close attention to these guys. Any one of them could steal the win while nobody is looking. Any one of them is a real pro who has what it takes to clutch a Masters win this year at Augusta. They all know the course, they all perform well under pressure, and they have all been out there working hard on their games. None of them can be counted out at any given time unless they do not make the cut.
