Major Overhaul Continues as Red Sox Phase Out 6 Coaches

The Boston Red Sox front office raised offseason expectations.

The Boston Globe reported Thursday that the Red Sox will be making additional cuts to their coaching staff. In the last 60 days, the Red Sox have gone through a major dismissal of all the excess they believe is unnecessary moving into the 2025 season. Craig Breslow is coming up on his year anniversary as the Chief Baseball Officer, and he understands he will be under severe scrutiny if the Red Sox fall short of the playoffs next season.

Red Sox Trim The Fat

Thursday, the Boston Globe reported that the Red Sox decided not to continue with six coaches into the 2025 season. Those released were bullpen coach Kevin Walker, assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz, first base/infield coach Andy Fox, trainer Ben Chadwick, mental skills coach Rey Fuentes, and bullpen catcher Mani Martinez.

Craig Breslow is working to find the perfect combination of coaches and players only to acquire ‘deep playoff’ value next year for Boston.  Although it is normal to dismiss coaches on franchises that had unsuccessful seasons, they have let go at least sixteen positions between the front office and the coaching staff over the last sixty days. As Brewslow rolls up his sleeves to do the dirty work that hasn’t been done in what feels like decades to some of Red Sox Nation, he and the team are getting rid of the things that won’t serve them in 2025.

Decisive Action For Fenway

Red Sox fans can no longer say ownership isn’t taking action because the last few decisions were hugely impactful. Infrastructural shifts to the core of the clubhouse are the beginning of what the Red Sox have needed to call back baseball’s legacy play in the city of Boston. As history shows, John Henry lacks the motivation to spend much time on his rosters over his years as the owner of the Red Sox.

Red Sox Nation is holding its breath that Craig Breslow freeing up so much capital in major coaching and front-office changes will result in more money to spend off-season.  Some of these positions will be replaced, but it is clear that Breslow is thinking outside the box about what will make magic next year. There is something to be said about the recent action and momentum created by these cuts.

Red Sox Restructure

Boston fans are rooting for anyone to end the infamous New York Yankees postseason.  In the best-case scenario, this time next year, Red Sox Nation is at the edge of its seats watching their team send the Yankees home.  Fans could look back at Breslow’s massive cuts and most recent actionable choices as a catalyst for making the Red Sox a championship team again.  On the other hand, it may backfire with the amount of experience the clubhouse will say goodbye to before 2025.

Winter is encroaching, and the Red Sox ownership may be warming up. Fans are skeptical about how spending may go between now and spring, but there is something different about the pairing with Breslow and Henry. This is the most movement the front office and coaching staff have seen in years, and it is about time the Boston Red Sox got shaken up.  The city wants its championship team back, and competitive Breslow wants to deliver.
