Is it a benching or an injury? The question remains: who will be the quarterback for the Titans for the rest of the season? Per multiple sources, the Tennessee Titans are expected to start quarterback Mason Rudolph in a road American Football Conference matchup versus the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Starting quarterback Will Levis will be off the field after suffering from his right shoulder injury.
The Titans are currently three and a half games back in their quest to win the American Football Conference South division. Sunday’s meeting will be the fifty-first meeting between the franchises. Tennessee leads the series 30-20. The last matchup was a 41-7 destructive win at home in 2022.
The Return of Mason Rudolph
Rudolph returns to the starting lineup for the Tennessee Titans after starting a proper number of games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in his career. Levis injured his right shoulder back on September 31st. The move does not come as a surprise to many fans or members of the Titans. Levis leads the league turnovers with 10. The question internally that many are wondering in the Titans organization is whether or not they benched Levis. He played last week versus the Indianapolis Colts in a 31-12 win.
The Titans now turn to Mason Rudolph, who has experience as a starter with the Steelers. Rudolph has a career 13-8-1 record and has never played against the Buffalo Bills. His career in the NFL started in 2020 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers were hoping that Mason Rudolph would be the answer for the longtime starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. Overall in his Steelers career, he finished with nineteen touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In 2024, the only game that Mason Rudolph played was against the Miami Dolphins. He completed nine of seventeen passes for eighty-five yards.
Final Thoughts
The Buffalo Bills open as 8 1/2 point favorites at home versus the Tennessee Titans in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills are coming off of a three-point win on the road against the New York Jets on Monday night football. The Bills made a splash trade by acquiring Amari Cooper in exchange for future draft picks. The Titans, however, have multiple injuries, including two to their starting defensive line, while the Bills are relatively healthy and will get back Ed Oliver and James Cook this week. Will Mason Rudolph spoil the home party? Tune in tomorrow at 1 pm to find out.
The Titans have a plethora of talented older players on their roster, including running back Tony Pollard as well as wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins, Tyler Boyd, and Calvin Ridley. The game has all of the makings for a potential trap game for the Buffalo Bills. The team has struggled mightily against the run over the last few weeks. Can the team get back on track with the return of starting defensive tackle Ed Oliver?
