Maryland Vs. Colorado State 2nd Round Preview| 2025 NCAA Tournament

Maryland

The No. 4 Seed in the West Region Maryland Terrapins(26-8) will take on the No. 12 Seed Colorado State Rams(26-9) in the 2nd Round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. This game will take place Sunday night in Seattle, Washington.

The Terrapins advanced with a 32-point win over Grand Canton. Colorado State defeated No. 7 seed Memphis in a game that was not considered an upset by the oddsmakers. Which team will win and punch their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen?

Maryland Terrapins Begin Tournament In Dominant Fashion

The Terrapins defeated Grand Canyon 81-49 to advance to the next round. They took the lead early in the first half and never relinquished it. A dominant performance should give Maryland confidence heading into Sunday’s contest. The Terrapins had a great game on offense. They shot 50.8% from the field and 43.8% from downtown. A possible issue for the team was how poorly they fared at the free-throw line. They finished 12-of-24. That is something the squad must shore up on Sunday.

Maryland used a committee-like approach to advance. They had five players score in double figures. Forward Julian Reese led the way with 18 points. Center Derik Queen pulled down a whopping 15 rebounds. He has pulled down 10+ boards in four of his last five games. Reese and Queen must continue playing well for the Terps to advance.

Colorado State Has a Great Second Half In Win

Colorado State came out of the gates poorly in the opening round. They trailed by five at intermission. They responded by putting together a dominant second half. They outscored the Tigers by 13 in the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

The Rams had a solid game on offense. Guard Kyan Evans scored 23 points including 11 in the second half. Colorado State was much better at the three-point line and free-throw line than Memphis. That is a recipe the Rams must follow if they are to upset Maryland.

Final Thoughts

The Terrapins are a 7.5-point favorite in a game that is expected to be high-scoring. Both teams will rely on their offense to win and clinch their spot in the Sweet Sixteen. Maryland has a deeper roster that will allow them to outlast the Rams.
