Martin Necas is off to a roaring start for the Carolina Hurricanes this season. He continues to stay hot and dominate the NHL. Necas is tied for fifth in the league in scoring. During the summer, Necas was part of trade rumors around the NHL but ended up staying with the Carolina Hurricanes. Necas signed a two-year contract extension worth $13 million. The Carolina Hurricanes are relieved they signed Necas with the epic start to the season he is having. He will look to keep this hot streak going on Wednesday night when the Hurricanes take on the Philadelphia Flyers. Will he be able to keep it going?

Martin Necas had two goals and two assists as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 on Sunday. Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour had nothing but positive things to say about Necas and the line he is playing on after the game on Sunday. “He’s certainly driving the ship for us, there’s no doubt about it. Pretty much on a nightly basis, so it’s very, very good to see.”
Brind’Amour also stated how the line came about with Robinson and Kotkaniemi that he just tried something different. Brind’Amour said “We added Eric Robinson to the line and he’s been good. Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Necas have played together really for a long time, but this little mix is working. Marty’s kind of been driving the bus, but those other guys are obviously helping.”
Necas Is On Fire
Martin Necas started this point streak back when he lost a golf ball bet to Brenden Lemieux in October. His hair suddenly had blond frosted tips. While he said he wasn’t sure how long he’d keep the blond look, Necas still has it. Necas has nine goals and 17 assists in the run. The Carolina Hurricanes offense has been hot and now this week playing against weak team’s defense, Necas’ point streak can still last a few more games.
Martin Necas is approaching history, now tied for the franchise’s fifth-longest point streak, the 25-year-old is also one game shy of equaling the longest streak since the team relocated to Raleigh. The Hurricanes forward is the fastest player to score 30 points in a season while wearing a Carolina sweater. Necas needed 17 games, which is one better than the 18 games required by Eric Staal in the 2005-06 season.
Final Thoughts
Martin Necas requested a trade from the Carolina Hurricanes in the offseason because of his role with the team. Necas was a third-line player in the playoffs and wanted a bigger opportunity. The Carolina Hurricanes had some serious offers but nothing materialized. The Hurricanes are fortunate to have kept Necas this season with the start he is having.
The Carolina Hurricanes are now 13-4-0 in the new NHL season. The Hurricanes will take the ice again on Wednesday night against a struggling Philadelphia Flyers team. The Hurricanes are in first place in the Metropolitan Division and tied with the New Jersey Devils in points with 26 points. After playing the Flyers on Wednesday they will play the New Jersey Devils the next day in New Jersey.
It will be a tough contest on Thursday for the Hurricanes against a great Devil team. Martin Necas’ point streak could come to an end that game, but it will be interesting to find out when the streak ends and where he ends up in Carolina Hurricanes franchise history.
