Markkanen trade could be huge for his career

The rumors about Lauri Markkanen’s potential trade with the Utah Jazz have been widely known. It seems he might be in for a huge weather change if the rumors are true. If these trades go through, he could be headed to play for the San Francisco-based side. The Jazz would be trading their starter and one of the NBA’s best for a fourth-rounder on the Golden State Warriors depth chart. Utah management has not yet made a deal to trade him, but there have been a lot of talks leading to a trade that may benefit the Jazz this season or the next.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Bay-Area team has taken talent from a smaller market team. However, while one team benefits, the trade pieces “the other” team gets in return often become a story from the past. More likely than not, when the star player is given up, patience is usually required to see what future picks end up becoming.

The latest discussions and rumors about the Utah Jazz’s best Lauri Markkanen trading is now that they are leaning toward trading him to the Warriors. They are offering Moses Moody in return, as well as multiple first-round picks, pick swaps, and second-round picks.

It seems the Jazz have countered the offer, saying they will trade Markkanen but want Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and more picks than was first offered. With offers and counteroffers being exchanged, many kitchen sinks may not be left in San Francisco.

However, what does this mean for Markkanen’s future when moving closer to the Golden Gate Bridge where he would be playing with one of the best potential teams in the NBA.

Last season, the Warriors ranked 10th with 46 wins and 36 losses. Being with the Jazz, Lauri was part of a team with 31 wins, then 51 losses, and has been playing with John Collins, Taylor Hendricks, Collin Saxton, and Kayonte George.

He is a small forward for the Jazz, and if he swaps out starters, he will replace Andrew Wiggins. Andrew averages 27 minutes, 13.2 points, 45.3 field goals, 35.8 3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.6 steals.

Comparing stats

Now, here are Markkanen’s stats: 33.1 minutes, 23.2 points, 48 field goals, 39.9 3-pointers, 8.2 rebounds, two assists, and 0.9 steals per game. So if he switches and starts playing with Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and Trayce Jackson-Davis, that could mean some really steep San Fransico street racing fun.

The Warriors have won six NBA Championships as well as one Basketball Association of America title. The last time they won was back in 2022, and it seems they didn’t do so well last year due to a lack of transition offensively. They struggled to create an easy offense as they ranked in last place, converting transition points.

Markkanen only shoots an average of 2.5 three points per game, and his career shooting percentage is almost 60%, so he would be just what the Warriors need in kicking their offense into the next gear.

If he does move and start out, Markkanen will play alongside Curry. Warriors Stephen has some of the best ball-handling skills in the NBA. His prowess on the court have moved him beyond the NBA, and how has the privilege of going to Paris representing Team USA in the Olympics.

The match-up of Cury and Markkanen representing the warriors together would definitely make a difference. Markkanen is known for his impressive shooting ability, especially from beyond the arc. He has also shown potential as a rebounder and scorer in the NBA. Talk about a deadly combination.

Warriors proposal for Lauri Markkanen

This could be just what Lauri has been working for. This trade would be a dream come true if he were going to build his career if he lived to win a championship. If Lauri were to try and keep his number one, best-on–team player, this move would dampen his stats, as they don’t come much better than Curry. Trades don’t always work out, but one thing you can be sure of is that no matter what happens, Markkanen will still be one of the best.

Leaving a team can be bittersweet for the athlete and the fanbase. Sometimes it’s a classic right-place, wrong-time situation. Either way, what the Finnish player has provided to Salt Lake City will always be valued. Unfortunately, it just may be time for both sides to move forward separately.
