Manchester United’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe is undergoing a crucial rebuilding process at the club. United have now made close to 250 layoffs ever since INEOS came to the club.
Manchester United has cut off lunchboxes for staff assigned during match days. Not only that they also reduced the number of set programs provided for corporate fans during the half time. All this was done as a way of saving costs at the Club
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS started a review of the financial situation of the club. They started this review after they took a quarter stake in the club earlier in the year. And the aftermath of the review led to them making close to 250 layoffs. It has also been stated that certain matchdays have been chosen to cut costs, and used savings.

Manchester United’s agency staff have been provided with Lunchboxes in the past. This contained a sandwich, cereal bar, bag of crisps, and soda. In the last development during United’s game against Fulham, such were not given again. Which eventually caught most of the staff by surprise. It was stated by other staff that they were given leftovers of food given to corporate punters. United in defense said the food given to the punters was also planned to be given to the staff. This implied they were extra quantities of food given to the corporate punters.
INEOS Influence on the Feeding Reduction
Manchester United have decided to remove the idea of lunchboxes on matchday for their staff. INEOS review during their arrival highlighted that a lot of the lunchbox meals were left uneaten. This in return leads to wastage. A lot of workers seem unhappy, some even raised other concerns, about them being forced to eat in a toilet. They said, “They’ve set up a dining table next to four toilet cubicles, You come out of the cubicle and someone is sat in right front of you, eating.”
Manchester United also in defense said there is a distinct room for feeding. Nevertheless, some people choose to eat somewhere less noisy which is adjacent to the bathroom and shower room.
Matchday Program and Private Chauffer Reduction
In the past, everyone who paid thousands per game to watch from private boxes was offered a matchday program. Now it has been axed. This began with the Fulham game. Some were shocked as they were only provided five out boxes of 10. They responded by saying. “Given the money we pay, to not even get a program each seems miserly in the extreme,”
United in response also said they are only giving half the number of boxes with programs. This is because most times magazines in those boxes are being thrown in the trash cans after the games. However, anyone who needs a program in a box without one will be given one. And also they can access the magazine in digital format, using a QR code. Aside from programs, private chauffer, and company credit cards were also affected.
Benefits for senior staff, mainly pr such as pre-match party, lunch after the match, and hotel accommodation, were removed totally. This is to reduce costs heavily. And make sure the club maximizes profit to spend on the players. During the FA Cup game against Man City, a lot of staff were disappointed when they were told to pay for their transport far for the final. As this was not done normally.
