Manchester United will face Newcastle on Tuesday at Old Trafford in what will be a potential decider for a Europa League spot.
Man United come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Old Trafford. Alejandro Garnacho had a total of seven shots in this game but four of these were blocked. Andre Onana was brilliant in goal and had a total of 5 saves. Casimero, Johnny Evans, Wan-Bissaka, and Diego Dalot all started in defense for Man United.
Newcastle United secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw in their last match against Brighton. Sean Longstaff scored the only goal for Newcastle United in the dying minutes of the first half. Alexander Isak had a quiet game compared to his usual standards. Anthony Gordon was effective in Newcastle’s attack but was unable to score.

Manchester United vs. Newcastle United Preview
Manchester United
In contrast to their humiliating 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace last Monday, Manchester United’s defense was relatively more solid in Sunday’s highly anticipated match against Arsenal at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s offensive efforts were easily thwarted by Mikel Arteta’s disciplined defenders.
The Gunners managed to regain their position at the top of the table thanks to a momentary lapse in concentration from Casemiro, who carelessly allowed Kai Havertz to stay onside after a long ball was played over the top. Leandro Trossard earned the victory for Arsenal with a first-half goal.
Ten Hag’s disappointing side missed an opportunity to assist Manchester City, leaving them in a lackluster eighth place in the rankings. They are now three points behind Newcastle and Chelsea with only two games remaining. If midweek results don’t favor them, they could officially be eliminated from top-seven contention.
Newcastle United
If Newcastle’s final two results are dissatisfactory, their 2024-25 campaign may not include any continental competition. However, Eddie Howe’s position in the St James’ Park dugout should remain secure for the time being. The 46-year-old coach led his team to impressive victories against Burnley and Sheffield United. However, the game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday was not particularly memorable. Both teams managed to score in the first half, with Joel Veltman and Sean Longstaff finding the back of the net.
Nevertheless, Howe’s team would have to suffer a massive defeat of 13 goals for Man United to surpass them on Wednesday. The Magpies will strive to continue their recent successful streak against the Red Devils, as they have emerged victorious in their last three matches in all competitions.
