Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs will face off against one another on May 12th to see who wins the grand cup. Manchester United goes into the game the obvious favorite, but the Spurs are tough contenders who will make the Reds work for the full 90 minutes. Despite losing the cup final last year against a dominant Chelsea side, Mark Skinner’s United team will hope to right last year’s wrongs and finally win the FA Cup silverware.

How They Got Here

Manchester United beat Chelsea to give them payback from the infamous Cup final last year. Mark Skinner’s side ended Emma Hayes‘ 18-game unbeaten streak in the competition. Chelsea has been so dominant in the last few years, that they have progressed to the FA Cup Final – and won – for the last 3 seasons.

But that wasn’t to be the same for the 2023-2024 season.

The Reds beat Chelsea 2-1 in the semi-final. Lauren James netted a goal for the Blues just before halftime, hoping to spark some life and intensity into the squad. But, the two goals from Lucia Garcia in the first minute and Rachel Williams in the 23rd minute proved to be enough.

Manchester started strong, scoring less than 60 seconds into the game. A defensive error led to a cross and header goal to give United the go-ahead right after the initial whistle.

A second goal from Williams really put Chelsea on edge. United had been utilizing a high press for the entire game. This tactical decision paid off with a cross from Toone finding Williams’ head and leading to a 23rd-minute goal.

On the other side of the city, Martha Thompson scored for the Hotspurs to send them to their first-ever major final. We bet it was super sweet for the ex-United player to score a goal that would send them to face her old club.

Despite the incredible comeback, fans and sports aficionados felt for Leicester, who had been leading since early in the match. But, a defensive error and sloppy passing caused Tottenham to send the game into extra time.

United and Tottenham both cemented their places into the FA WSL after their promotion from the Championship in 2019. The two newcomers quickly made names for themselves with high-profile signings and talented management staff.

If we were analyzing past performances, United has a strong chance of winning the final. They have won the last 10 out of 11 meetings, and they strongly beat Spurs 4-0 earlier this season.
