The Manchester United goalkeeper has had a hard time under Erik Ten Hag’s team since joining the Reds. Andre Onana was supposed to break into the squad and provide last-minute saves and penalty kick heroics. But the truth is far from a fairy tale story. Onana has made numerous mistakes, missed easy saves, and passed the ball to the other team. Why can’t Andre Onana seem to find his feet in the Premier League?

As a goalkeeper, it is your job to block shots, distribute passes with your feet, and come up big in high-stress moments. Unfortunately for Andre Onana, he has struggled to perform since joining Manchester United last July. Onana was one of the most highly-anticipated transfers into the Premier League, replacing the older Spaniard, David De Gea.
However, the pressure might be too much for the young keeper. David De Gea was Manchester United’s Number One for 12 seasons, making key stops and earning trophies. The big shoes to fill could be too vast for the young keeper who succeed at Ajax. The pressure of being labeled one of the ‘best ball-playing goalkeepers in the world’ might be distracting Onana during matches.

7 Months Post-Signing, Andre Onana Number One Spot in Jeopardy
Fans have hoped that it just takes a new player some time to gain confidence and slot their way into a team. But with Onana, it has already been 7 months – and he is still making huge errors. Onana has a 70% save average, which is comparable with the club’s former keeper, but poor team performances have overshadowed his stats.
Manchester United are not ranking as highly in the Premier League as usual and their poor Champions League outing was abysmal at best. Andre Onana made numerous mistakes in the Champions League, highlighting his errors on the national stage.
Even Onana has said that it took him way too long to find his footing in the Manchester United squad.
‘It took me six or seven months not to play good, just to feel good. It was a difficult time for me. For me, the most important thing is to be set, to be happy, and I will shine.’
Can Andre Onana turn it around and become a dependable ‘man between the sticks’ for Manchester United? Only time will tell. But, he might not have much time left.
