Manchester United has made the bold move to forfeit their commitment to Erik ten Hag, as the club ownership and its affiliates made the decision today. The move was prompted by United’s 2-1 disappointing loss against West Ham. A few days back, their game before West Ham ended in a 1-1 draw against Fenerbache at the Europa. The Red Devils had only managed to win three of their nine Premier League games so far. Also in the Europa League, the Red Devils have only managed three draws in three games at the Europa Tournament League phase. This and many more had aggravated United to make the bold move of sacking the Dutchman.
Erik Ten Hag Sacked
It was reported by David Ornestein who writes for The Athletic that ten Hag had left his role as Manchester United manager with Ruud Van Nistelrooy taking over as interim. He said: “Manchester United sack manager Erik ten Hag. 54 yo Dutchman informed by #MUFC of the decision this morning. Ruud van Nistelrooy asked to take charge on an interim basis with the rest of the staff remaining in position for now.”
Before the report, Fabrizio Romano also reported earlier that Manchester United has been having some internal discussions on the future of the Dutchman, which was fueled by United’s disappointing loss at West Ham. Fabrizio Romano reported: “Manchester United are discussing internally to sack Erik ten Hag with immediate effect! Understand Ruud van Nistelrooy would stay as interim manager if all goes to plan in internal talks. Understand Ruud van Nistelrooy will be Man United’s interim manager, as exclusively revealed earlier today. He’s the immediate replacement for Erik ten Hag, decision made internally.”
Manchester United’s Official Statement
Manchester United also made an official statement concerning the situation of the Dutchman. It was announced that Dutchman will no longer be in charge of his role as the Red Devils coach. It was stated: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well in the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited”.
What Lies Ahead For Manchester United
The Red Devils have now appointed Ruud Van Nistelrooy as the interim manager for the club. With nine games already played in the Premier League, there’s still hope for revival for the Manchester Club. As it stands they are 14th in the Premier League table with 11 points. They are presently 12 points behind league leaders and seven behind the top four.
It’s a sign that they could still catch up with their fellow Premier League giants vying for the EPL Crown. Nevertheless, it cannot be overstated the work that lies ahead for both the team and the interim manager. Also in the Europa League United are in the 21st position with three points. They’ll be hopeful with the new system and a coach in play they can push for something in the tournament.
