Manchester United Reportedly Interested in Signing Rosenborg Wonderkid

Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Rosenborg’s rising star, Sverre Nypan. The 17-year-old midfielder has already established himself as a standout talent in Norwegian football, making 54 appearances for Rosenborg’s first team, during which he has scored 11 goals and provided ten assists.

His impressive performances this season, with six goals and nine assists in 27 matches, have attracted the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs. According to reports from Goal, Manchester United have been tracking Nypan since 2022 and are now considering a formal approach to sign the young midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window.

Nypan has also publicly admired Manchester United, especially Cristiano Ronaldo. In a 2023 interview with TV2, he admitted to being a lifelong fan of the Red Devils and described the prospect of playing for them as “a dream come true,” though he initially considered it unrealistic. However, his rapid development over the past year has now made such a move more feasible.

How has Nypan Drawn Interest from Manchester United?

There are speculations that if United secures his signature, Nypan could be loaned back to Rosenborg to continue his development. Nypan’s playmaking abilities and vision have drawn comparisons to Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, a fellow Norwegian who also made waves as a young player. Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen expressed his excitement about Nypan’s potential, noting that he sees parallels and a lot of similarities between the teenager’s rise and Odegaard’s early breakthrough.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United are so impressed with Nypan that they plan to accelerate their efforts to sign him, potentially finalizing a deal in the January transfer window. The club’s new owners, INEOS and sporting director Dan Ashworth, are reportedly pushing to secure the Norwegian prodigy sooner than expected.

Other Elites Interested in Potential Signing Syerre Nypan

Alongside Manchester United, several other top clubs are monitoring Nypan, including Manchester City, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite this competition, United is thought to be leading the race for his signature. Nypan signed a new contract with Rosenborg last year, keeping him with the club until December 2026, but his market value has skyrocketed.

Rosenborg’s sports manager, Mikael Dorsin, previously estimated that Nypan could now be worth as much as 100 million euros (£84m), given his current level of performance. United will face stiff competition for Syerre Nypan’s signature, with clubs like Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen also showing interest.

Bayer Leverkusen, under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, has already sent scouts to observe the young midfielder. Despite the attention, Nypan has remained focused on his development, particularly after recovering from a recent illness. It is not long left before the 17-year-old star will soon sign with a top-flight club in Europe, as many of the elites are keen to get his signature and include him in their squad.
