Manchester City and Liverpool Enter Race for Signing Heorhiy Sudakov

Manchester City vs. Fulham

Manchester City and Liverpool are reportedly interested in Heorgiy Sudakov. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has made a strong start to the 2023-24 season with Shakhtar Donetsk. In nine appearances, including two matches in the Champions League early in the season, the 22-year-old has netted three goals and provided one assist.

According to TBR Football, scouts from both Premier League clubs attended Shakhtar’s recent Champions League match against Atalanta BC, specifically monitoring Sudakov’s performance. The report suggests that they will continue to evaluate him over the coming months, considering a potential transfer in the summer.

Since Manchester City is down to its two main players, Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante and Kevin De Bruyne, due to injuries, Heorgiy Sudakov can replace one of them. Since Manchester City is not performing as per the expectation, a youth team can turn it around with their fresh perspective of the game. Their youthful energy often brings a dynamic style of play, with an ability to adapt quickly to tactical demands.

Shining product of Shakhtar’s youth academy

Sudakov, a product of Shakhtar’s youth academy, has played 110 times for the club, scoring 23 goals and assisting 19. Most of his contributions this season have been in the Premier Liga, where he has scored three times and assisted once, including goals in his last two league games.

On the international stage, he has represented Ukraine 22 times, scoring three goals and providing five assists. His latest goal came in a match against the Czech Republic.

The 22-year-old has become one of the most exciting talents in European football, solidifying his role as a key player for both his club and the Ukrainian national team. While he mainly operates as an attacking midfielder, he can also play as an advanced left winger.

Can Sudakov be Manchester City’s new star?

Manchester  City is reportedly eyeing Sudakov as a possible replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who appears to be nearing the end of his career. De Bruyne’s contract runs until June 2025. Still, uncertainties surround his future, especially with significant interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the MLS, which could mean this season is his last with Manchester City. However, an extension is still a possibility.

De Bruyne has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury. He has missed the last two Premier League games, and a Champions League match against Slovan Bratislava. He will remain until after the October international break, missing Belgium’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Italy and France.

Since joining Manchester City in 2015, De Bruyne has made 388 appearances, scoring 103 goals and providing 171 assists. Rather than these stats, Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne can also pass with both feet, seamlessly transitioning possession and delivering precise passes over various distances, often threading them through tight spaces. This ability allows him to break through opposing defenses from multiple angles.
