Manchester City Rumor: Argentine Sensation on a Possible Move away from the Etihad

Manchester City might be out of one of their key squad players after the rumor that he is unhappy with Pep’s playing time goes viral. Just because City has won the league and always seems on top of the world, that doesn’t mean that every player can boost their personal playing statute, number of minutes per game, and personal ideas.

Although City is at the top of the table year after year, they can only put eleven people on the field at one time – this means that numerous people in their squad will not play in key games, play only limited minutes, or not make the squad altogether. One of City’s South American players has found himself out of favor with the coach, despite playing extremely well in all appearances.

Argentine sensation Julian Alvarez might be on his way out of the Etihad as his home ground as he is considering leaving Manchester City during the summer transfer window. Alvarez is a fantastic player and makes a difference every time he comes on the field, but Pep still won’t start this youngster in key matches, making the South American feel potentially unwanted and unneeded on a top-tier team.

At only 24 years old, Alvarez was a great signing for City. Not only was this a huge step up from the team River Plate in his home country of Argentina, but it was a smart move by Pep to get someone who didn’t cost very much but wanted to make the most out of this amazing opportunity. Alvarez cost the massive club just $14 million, which is a steal for how good of a player he is.

For a very small transfer fee, Alvarez was a huge presence on the pitch. He scored 17 goals in all competitions, which is incredible for a young substitute from another country, syncing up well with other players and making a noticeable contribution during his limited playing time. He scored 19 goals in all competitions during the 2023-2024 season, but still couldn’t break his way into the starting lineup consistently.

Unfortunately for Alvarez, Pep Guardiola also signed Haaland – arguably the best number 9 in the entire world. This means that Alvarez would have to beat out the Norwegian for playing time or take another spot on the field, like for Grealish, Foden, or DeBruyne, which is almost impossible.

Therefore, Alvarez had more limited minutes than he had hoped when he made the move to Manchester City. Even though he won the treble with the team and has consistently earned praise from fellow teammates and coaches, he wants to get more game time as a young and tenacious player at a high level.

Unfortunately for Manchester City, this means that he may go elsewhere.

This isn’t the first time the club has cut their losses with stars who want to try another team for more playing time or due to disagreements over tactics or formations. Stars like Sterling went to Chelsea to get consistent time in the front line and Jesus went to Arsenal to try and find his scoring form again.

For Alvarez, he will now be a great selling point for Manchester City. Since he arrived at the Etihad, his price has increased by at least $65 million for his contract. There are rumors he could move to Atletico Madrid in La Liga or PSG in Ligue 1 to continue his playing career.

Whatever the next move may be, nobody can argue that he didn’t play exceptionally well in the Premier League for Manchester City this past season.
