Man United has shown interest in acquiring the services of Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo during the upcoming summer transfer window. Adarabioyo’s contract at Craven Cottage is set to expire at the end of the season, potentially paving the way for a free transfer to Old Trafford. Fulham signed the former England youth international in 2020 from Manchester City. In addition, he has had loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn. Adarabioyo recently signed a contract extension with Fulham in January 2023, but it seems that his time at the club will come to an end when his deal runs out in June.
Man United Interested in Signing Tosin Adarabioyo
United wants to get a center back this summer as part of a team change during the first transfer window. The club’s new football leadership team, which was put in place by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will be in charge of this window. Jason Wilcox, the technical director of Man United, has a strong familiarity with Adarabioyo due to their previous stint at Manchester City. Wilcox previously worked in City’s academy before transitioning to Southampton as director of football.
Adarabioyo, a product of Manchester City’s youth academy, had stints on loan at Blackburn Rovers and West Brom before securing a reported €1.65 million transfer to Fulham in 2020. He has established himself as a key player in Fulham’s defense. In his debut season at the club, he experienced a devastating blow when Fulham was relegated from the Premier League. Nevertheless, his contribution proved vital to their Championship title win, propelling them back to the Premier League. With an impressive 132 appearances under his belt, he has played a crucial role in elevating Fulham to a strong midtable team in the Premier League.
After undergoing a groin surgery at the beginning of the season, the 26-year-old was sidelined until November 2023. Ever since his comeback, he has become a consistent presence in Fulham’s defensive lineup. Adarabioyo has been quite impressive this season, making 25 appearances, keeping seven clean sheets, and even managing to score two goals. His performances have caught the attention of big Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United.
Could Man United Renew Contract of Current Center Backs?
Some of Man United’s current center-backs, like Raphaël Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans, still have doubts regarding their future. Varane’s contract runs out at the end of the season. Man United will wait until the summer to decide if they want to extend Evans’ 36-year-old contract. The Red Devils are willing to listen to offers for both Maguire and Lindelöf, but it seems likely that at least one will stay.
Also, sources say that Borussia Dortmund owes Man United more money because Jadon Sancho helped the German team make it to the Champions League final. The loan agreement made with Dortmund in January includes a cap on extra payments of €4m ($4.3m) based on appearances and results in domestic games and the Champions League. Dortmund had to pay €3.5m for the first loan. Since coming back to his old team, Sancho has played 18 times and scored three goals. He started both games of the Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain.
