Legendary Man United Players Thinks ten Hag is not ‘Fit’ For the Job in 2024

Man United has had a terrible season this year. They began the 2023-2024 Premier League competition hoping to at least make it into the top five places so they could partake in European football the following year. But, after terrible games, player disputes, coaching errors, and constant criticism, Man United will end the PL year in the middle of the table.

But who is to blame? Part of the blame has to lie with the manager – Erik Ten Hag. Although he has had some good moments as being in charge of the squad, he could be out of his depth. Plus, players like Casemiro and Fernandes who are not playing their best have drastically hurt the consistency and goal-scoring form of the team.

So, will Ten Hag return as Man United manager next year? One of the all-time United greats doesn’t think so.

Man United Great Doesn’t Think Ten Hag Will Return

Numerous commentators, pundits, ex-players, and coaches are all discussing the tenuous future of Ten Hag at Man United. Will he be able to pull the wool over the board’s eyes and stay as the leader of the team, or will the poor results this year lead to an immediate firing once the season ends?

Peter Schmeichel, one of the all-time best goalkeepers to play in the Premier League – or any league in the world – thinks ten Hag is on his way out of Man United. Schmeichel holds numerous records and accolades after playing for United and passed down his athletic prowess and goalkeeping skills to his son.

He believes that ten Hag is not fit for the job and won’t be asked back to steer the Red Devils toward victory in the 2024-2025 Premier League season.

‘I think with Ten hag, it’s one of his problems, doing these post-match interviews…He’s trying to be honest and he’s someone who analyzes a lot, so he’s spending the next couples days looking at the game…So he will see a lot of what we’ve seen today when he looks back at the game…He’s come out saying that his team was one of the most dynamic and entertaining in the Premier League….I don’t know why he’s doing that, ti could be a deliberate thing to divert from other things. I’m worried about what’s going to happen going forward…’

Schmeichel believes that Ten Hag is not only inaccurate in his views of his team and players, but that his post-match interviews and after-game analyses are hurting the fans’ and commentators’ views of his team and their performances.

Another legend, Michael Owen, also called for the Dutch coach to be sacked earlier in the year after a slew of poor results.

‘I can’t imagine one Manchester United at home watching that is going to be ‘Oh, that’s my man.’ He mentions injuries a lot, whose fault is the injuries? He’s the manager, it’s his club’s problem, why are you blaming everyone?’

Does Ten Hag Deserve to Stay at Man United?

Although numerous Manchester United and ex-PL greats think that Ten Hag should leave the Red Devils at the end of the year, there is also an argument that he should stay at least one more season. Man United players like Gary Neville and Roy Keane are pleading with the fans to give Ten Hag a little more patience in charge of the team.

‘I hope he’s given more time and they get to the summer, they can regroup and restructure the club, or whatever that might be.’

Only time will tell if Ten Hag stays at Man United for another year.
