Amrabat completed a season-long loan deal to Manchester United from Fiorentina in a deal completed on the 2023 summer transfer deadline day. The midfielder joins for the season on loan for £8.5m with United holding an option to buy him for £21.4m. Amrabat is United’s seventh signing of the summer and fourth on Deadline Day.
The Morocco midfielder, who starred for his country as they finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has 49 international caps. United have honed their focus on Amrabat as they look to further strengthen manager Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Manchester United suffer blow in Sofyan Amrabat pursuit
Manchester United have reportedly suffered a blow in their hopes to sign Sofyan Amrabat with a new club said to have emerged as the frontrunner for his signature. Fiorentina’s central midfielder has been touted with a move to United this summer with those close to him claiming Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the Moroccan. The 26-year-old would strengthen the defensive midfield position at Old Trafford with United currently having little cover for Casemiro.
Throughout the season, the 27-year-old made only 20 league appearances with just nine starts, failing to secure a regular spot in manager Erik ten Hag’s lineup.
Manchester United decides Sofyan Amrabat’s transfer
Manchester United have decided not to make midfielder Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal permanent following a lackluster spell at the club, according to Football Insider. The Morocco international, who joined on loan from Fiorentina for £8.5 million, will return to his parent club at the end of this season. Amrabat, who gained significant attention after his impressive performances for Morocco in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, joined Man United last summer.
However, his time at Old Trafford was marred by an initial injury, limiting his early contributions. When he did return, an injury crisis forced him into an unfamiliar left-back role, where he struggled to make an impact.

Manchester United will NOT keep Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent deal
Amrabat emerged as one of Man United manager Ten Hag’s top targets last summer after impressing for club and country. The 27-year-old ultimately joined Manchester United on the deadline day, with the Premier League club securing his services on loan for a fee of £8.5 million, coupled with an option to make the deal permanent for £21.5 million.
Regrettably, Amrabat’s performances have fallen short of expectations this season, and according to reports from the Sun, the Red Devils are now unlikely to make Amrabat’s loan deal permanent. Manager Erik ten Hag is already making plans for the player’s departure at the end of the season.
Ten Hag on Amrabat’s Impact Addressing United’s midfield concerns
Amrabat has joined Manchester United on loan from Fiorentina, ending an agonizing summer of waiting for a player who has spent the summer either not training, or training alone, while nervously glancing at his phone for news of a potential move. Erik ten Hag has outlined why Manchester United have signed Sofyan Amrabat and what he will bring to his team.
“In that position we only had Casemiro who can play really well there. With others we have to make compromises but, with Sofyan Amrabat, we have another one.
“Also he can play alongside Casemiro because he can also play a little bit higher on the pitch. So it’s very good to have him and I think he fits very good to Premier League football, to Champions League football. I think the demands are strong.”
