Why Dan Ashworth as Manchester United’s sporting director is vital

Dan Ashworth Newcastle’s sporting director has been linked with Manchester United for a couple of days. Manchester United and Newcastle United have reached an agreement for Ashworth’s release from St. James’ Park. He is free to take on the same role at Old Trafford. Ashworth’s appointment is considered a key piece of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s vision for the Old Trafford club. The former FA executive made clear his desire to join the Red Devils back in February and has spent nearly five months on gardening leave while the two clubs attempted to thrash out a deal. Manchester United views Ashworth’s arrival as a key addition to their management team.

Manchester United have finally agreed a deal for Dan Ashworth to become their new sporting director. Ashworth was on the radar of Newcastle. Ineos wanted to enhance some changes in the Man United Board amid the interest of Ashworth, which has taken over control of the Red Devils’ football operations after its founder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, bought a minority stake in the club. Ashworth becomes one of the perfect fits for the United organization set up at large. It is being confirmed that Ashworth will begin his new role as director at Old Trafford with immediate effect.

Manchester United had earlier approached Newcastle in February after Ashworth had been placed on staycation for some days. But Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team halted at demands for £20 million for compensation. As both clubs refused to compromise, news elapsed in April that Ashworth planned to take Newcastle to reconciliation. Manchester United supported this move, and they were ready to cover his legal fees. A discussion was expected to start soon, but the clubs resolved it, allowing Ashworth to start his new role as a sporting director.

Who is Dan Ashworth? His major achievements

Although some may forget, Dan Ashworth was quite the player himself. Before his appointment as the sporting director at Manchester United, he served as the technical director at Newcastle United. Dan first came to prominence for his work at West Brom before moving to the Football Association (FA) as Technical Director in 2012. During his term at Newcastle, he played a vital role in the club’s tactical plan development, where he established himself as an idealist leader. He held prominent roles at the FA and West Bromwich Albion, where he made significant contributions to the development of the English Football League.

Dan Ashworth’s Departure: Can They Recover?

The minority owner, INEOS’ director of sport, is playing a key role in the reshaping of Manchester United back to their formal ways of winning titles and cups. He has known Ashworth since 2016. The pair worked together at the Football Association (FA) and have kept in touch, and he is determined that Ashworth’s ability as a sporting director would be significant to the Red Devils. Ashworth Departure could have a big impact on Newcastle’s ambitions and ability to complete at the highest levels, having helped the club take the Champions League last season.

Sometimes in life, an opportunity comes along where you just go, ‘Blimey, it’s just too good to turn down’,” Ashworth said in October 2022, insisting he “wasn’t looking for a job” before he was headhunted. “I want to be a sporting director competing in Europe, for trophies, at the top of the league. And I really enjoy building; that really excited me.
