On Tuesday evening, two teams that have managed just one point from their first two matches of the 2024-25 La Liga season will face off as Mallorca hosts Sevilla at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.
This summer, Sevilla has been active in the transfer market, bringing in eight new players while losing several key figures, including Youssef En-Nesyri, who transferred to Fenerbahce. Last season, Sevilla finished 14th, marking their lowest league position since their relegation at the end of the 1999-2000 season.
Mallorca has made three key signings—Johan Mojica, Takuma Asano, and Mateu Morey—while their most significant departure has been Predrag Rajkovic, who moved to Saudi Arabia. Having finished 15th in La Liga last season, Mallorca will end August with an away fixture against Leganes. Following the international break, they will return to play Villarreal at home.

Mallorca enters this match after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Osasuna, with Ruben Garcia scoring the lone goal early in the second half at El Sadar. In their opening game, Mallorca had held the reigning champions, Real Madrid, to a 1-1 draw. However, they could not build on that positive start in their subsequent match.
Sevilla, like Mallorca, also collected just one point in their first two matches. Their sole point came from a 1-1 draw with Las Palmas on August 16. Their most recent game saw them lose 2-1 to Villarreal at home. Although Dodi Lukebakio had equalized for Sevilla after Arnaut Danjuma’s opening goal, Ayoze Perez secured the win for Villarreal with a goal in stoppage time.
The Pirates are eager to rebound in their second home game of the season. In their previous meeting with Sevilla during the 2023-24 season, Mallorca secured a 1-0 victory. Historically, Sevilla has had the upper hand over Mallorca, winning three of their last four league encounters, including a 2-1 victory at Estadio Ramon in April of this year.
Team News
For this match, Mallorca will be missing two players: new signing Mateu Morey, who is injured, and Javi Llabres. Mallorca’s head coach, Jagoba Arrasate, is expected to stick with his 4-3-3 formation, given the positive performance against Real Madrid. Dani Rodriguez is likely to continue on the left wing, while Manu Morlanes may replace Omar Mascarell in midfield.
Sevilla will be without Suso and Joan Jordan, and Kike Salas is doubtful due to an injury that caused him to leave the pitch during the second half of their game against Villarreal. Head coach Garcia Pimienta is likely to make several changes, with Djibril Sow and Marcao expected to come into the lineup. Kelechi Iheanacho may also get a start up front. Saul Niguez is expected to retain his spot in central midfield, and Lukebakio, who scored against Villarreal, should also feature.
Mallorca vs. Sevilla: Probable Starting XI
Mallorca: Greif; Maffeo, Valjent, Raillo, Mojica; S Costa, Morlanes, Darder; Asano, Muriqi, D Rodriguez
Sevilla: Nyland; Carmona, Bade, Marcao, Pedrosa; Sow, Agoume, Saul; Lukebakio, Iheanacho, Ocampos
