Luton Town might not be one of the most widely-known teams in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have quality players in their starting eleven or on their bench. Luton Town has a ton of homegrown talent, ranging from youthful academy prospects to other veterans from clubs in the PL or the Championship who are trying to get more minutes in the tank.
That is why Luton Town has churned out prospect after prospect who can continue to make a difference on any team in the Premier League or Championship in English football. One of Luton’s most desirable midfielders is set to sign for a top-tier club, Aston Villa, in the upcoming week.
Luton Town Midfielder to Villa for 2024 Season
Aston Villa are keen to announce their first signing of the summer transfer window in just a month. The summer transfer window is when tons of players in the Premier League Ligue 1, La Liga, and Bundesliga, along with other leagues around the world, decide to negotiate contracts, change their clubs, or quit football altogether.
Villa have decided to pursue a talented midfielder from Luton Town that they believe can add experience, depth, and tactical awareness to the middle of the park to help them win games and secure a higher spot in the PL table for next season.
Ross Barkley is a name that people know of in the Premier League. He made a name for himself when he played for Chelsea FC between 2018 and 2022, amassing numerous appearances and becoming a stalwart for the club. He also represented the English national team beginning at the U16 level, and progressing to the senior England squad after his first call-up back in 2013.
Now, at 30 years old, he is one of the older players in the Premier League who can continue playing at a high level. He made 32 appearances for Luton Town in the Premier League this year, earning five goals and providing four assists for his teammates. His longevity and fitness show that he can withstand an entire season and continue playing at a high level.
For Nice the season prior, he made 27 appearances and added four goals and two assists in the Ligue 1 campaign between 2022-2023. During his tenure at Chelsea, he got less game time as the years went on, which is why he decided to make the switch to France to build back his fitness, confidence, and playing style. And it paid off – now Villa wants to sign him as their first signing in July.
Aston Villa Looking Forward
If Aston Villa sign Ross Barkley, they can do even better than they did this Premier League season. Villa ended in fourth place this season in the Premier League, which was a shock to most people involved. They earned 68 points on the season, winning 20 matches and drawing eight matches in the year. They were two points ahead of Tottenham to secure fourth place and shock PL fans who never saw it coming.
Buying Ross Barkley would be a smart move for the team if they want to add depth to their squad, bring in an experienced veteran to the lineup, and avoid spending a ton of money on a financially draining player who may never see the field. He did extremely well for Luton Town this past year, meaning that he still can play at the elite level for at least one more season.
For less than 6 million dollars, Villa can purchase Barkley from Luton Town – talk about a bargain.
