Luka Doncic Suffers Left Calf Contusion During Workout

Luka Doncic suffered an injury during practice on Wednesday.

ESPN reported that Dallas Mavericks Point Guard Luka Doncic suffered a left calf contusion during a workout on Wednesday. Doncic, 25, sustained his latest injury after sustaining a hit to the calf. Doncic will be sidelined for at least one week, per the Mavericks. The Mavericks will conclude their three-day training camp on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas on Thursday, October 3. After that, the Mavericks will return to Dallas to open the 2024 NBA Preseason against the Memphis Grizzlies at the American Airlines Center on Monday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. Central.

Doncic’s injury has sparked mixed emotions from social media users. Some users are optimistic the Mavericks can still win the NBA Finals, while others wonder if Doncic is pulling a Kawhi Leonard in terms of injuries through his journey in the NBA. Read on for further details so you can make an informed decision.

Luka Doncic Suffered a New Injury

The injury bug came back to bite Luka Doncic at the worst possible time. Doncic has been carrying the Dallas Mavericks on his back for much of the time between 2018 to the present. Doncic’s injury may not be serious, which would likely be the Mavericks’ hope, especially if having a full lineup was a top priority heading into the 2024-25 NBA season.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Doncic suffered a left calf contusion and will be re-evaluated in one week. Charania’s recent post on X, formerly Twitter, serves as a reassurance to the basketball world. Doncic’s injury likely isn’t serious, but we’ll see what happens in the coming days.

Doncic Suffered a Previous Injury

This preseason left calf contusion isn’t Luka Doncic’s first rodeo. Doncic previously suffered a calf injury last preseason during the Dallas Mavericks’ trips to Abu Dhabi and Madrid. Doncic’s previous injury wasn’t serious, as he recovered just in time for the Mavericks’ 2023-24 NBA regular season opener.

Doncic will miss at least a week, but it could be for the best. Doncic’s recovery should be granted in the coming weeks, but his newest injury can negatively impact the Mavericks. His injury history is a cause of concern, as his injuries keep him out for weeks and perhaps months at a time and also expose his pain management skills.

Future Availability Of Doncic

There is no concern about Luka Doncic’s availability for the Dallas Mavericks’ 2024-25 regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, October 24, sources told ESPN. Doncic’s availability will likely occur at an appropriate time, but he might not be completely recovered from his newest injury.

As the Mavericks look to return to the NBA Finals, Luka Doncic’s injury might be the first of many injuries in the 2024-25 NBA regular season or 2025 NBA Playoffs. Doncic’s recovery left some Mavericks fans worried, which would be completely understandable, as his body tends to wear down over time.
