The highly anticipated reunion of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami is undoubtedly a moment that has captured the attention of soccer fans worldwide. It’s truly remarkable how destiny has brought together these former FC Barcelona superstars. Suarez must have found it easier to play in the MLS because La Pulga was there, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. Instead, it seems that no Mexican team showed significant interest in him.
Luis Suarez Discloses Why He Chose Inter Miami
Luis Suarez was asked about his decision not to play for Liga MX in an interview before the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal against Monterrey. According to Favian Renkel, Luis Suarez playfully responded by saying:
“This year no Mexican team wanted me, it was last year [they were interested].”
After, the Uruguayan quickly highlighted his primary reason for joining Inter Miami. He saw it as a chance to reunite with former teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. He also expressed his desire to help build the legacy of Inter Miami and accomplish success by winning championships.
Even though the former Barcelona superstar was joking, it makes it clear that Suarez did get offers from Mexican teams to play for them. It likely occurred during his time with either his childhood club, Nacional, or with Gremio. Nevertheless, it appears that the striker declined their offers, as only Inter Miami expressed a strong desire to sign him this year.

Has Luis Suarez Been A Good Signing For Inter Miami?
Luis Suarez moved to Inter Miami before the start of the 2024 MLS season. The 37-year-old has scored seven goals and provided five assists in ten games for the club in the Major League Soccer and Concacaf Champions Cup. Given the uncertainty surrounding the presence of the Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi, he would need to maintain his current form in the return leg against Monterrey.
Lionel Messi is currently recovering from an excessive strain in his right hamstring. It leaves Luis Suarez as the star man to guide Inter Miami to glory. The return leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup is less than a week, and the whole world eagerly waits to know the fate of Inter Miami.
