Lucy Bronze is one of the best fullbacks, and one of the best footballers in the world. She has shone on the international stage for many years now after making her England debut at such a young age, and has gone on to develop into one of the most prolific and threatening defenders-turned-attackers in the world.
Her ability to get up and down the line is unmatched, shown by her speed and tenacity in every single game. She whips in crosses, wins headers, scores goals, and assists her teammates — all from a defender’s position. Her athleticism and strength are visible on and off the pitch. She is not only one of the best players, but she is a highly respected person. It is no wonder that Chelsea signed her as soon as they heard that she would be leaving Barcelona — their loss is Chelsea’s gain.
Lucy Bronze to Chelsea Details
Lucy Bronze made the move to Barcelona a couple of years ago and had an instant impact, immediately slotting into the starting lineup and linking up with England teammate, Keira Walsh, who played in the middle of the park. Now, she is looking forward to being back home.
“I’m really excited to be back in England,” she said. “My family are so excited as well to get to more of my games. I’m excited to be in London, to see what the capital holds and to be at a club that is renowned for winning so many trophies.”
Lucy Bronze is known for winning. She has won numerous titles with England and has won dozens of domestic trophies with clubs in England and abroad. She won the WSL with Liverpool, earned more than 100 caps for representing her country, won the 2020 FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year award, and won the Euros with her national team two years ago. Now, she is hoping to bring the leadership and experience to the Chelsea team and to their new manager, Paul Green. Green, the replacement for Emma Hayes, is ecstatic to have a player of Lucy Bronze’s caliber on his team.
Lucy Bronze Stats
Last season for Barcelona, Bronze made 21 appearances and scored one goal, also providing four assists for her teammates in key games. She made ten appearances in the UEFA Champions League competition, adding one goal to her tally for the year. In 2022, she made 20 appearances for Barcelona and scored three goals during all competitions.
Prior to making the move to Spain, she represented Manchester City, one of the top teams in the Barclays Women’s Premier League. At City, where she stayed for five seasons, she averaged more than 15 matches per season and was a stalwart veteran defender during her time on the team. But, she is no stranger to playing abroad. She spent three seasons at Lyon in France to develop even further, making more than 45 league appearances do the French club and adding four goals to her overall tally.
Now, she hopes to continue winning ways at Chelsea FC in London. Lucy Bronze has yet to play in England for a London team, only playing for Liverpool and Manchester City, so this will be a first for her. Chelsea FC also have Millie Bright, Niamh Charles, and Jess Carter as defenders, Lucy Bronze’s England teammates, so she should link up nicely with them during training and matches.
