Luca Marini and Joan Mir attended the one-day official MotoGP test at Misano after skipping the San Marino Grand Prix because of illness. The riders tested several important new parts, including a new fairing and various chassis components. The new fairing resembles the one Ducati has been running on its Desmosedici GP24 since the Sepang test in February.
Mixed Results for Luca Marini and Mir
He thinks that he is still experiencing the effects of his illness, Luca Marini was able to finish the test and at the end of the day, was in the 21st position. While all this was going on, Joan Mir who had been suffering from the flu through the race weekend only managed to come in right behind him in 22nd. Both riders were looking forward to the test intending to offer feedback to their respective teams. While Luca Marini was not in good condition, he was able to find something positive to latch onto.
Marini Pushes Though Despite Sickness
Luca Marini had retired from the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday morning before he fell sick in the night. However, he understood you had to get back on his bike and do the test though he was not fit he was not okay. He said that:
“It was really important to get back on the bike today so we could try some things for the engineers, Marini said. Honestly, I didn’t feel great today and we had to limit our plan a little bit. In the morning we did most of our work before wrapping up a couple of things in the afternoon.”
The disease limited Luca Marini in performing his testing plan to his optimum but provided his team with some data. He did his best for Honda while the company and its team continued to look for potential enhancements for the rest of the year.
Main Recovery and Testing Feedback
Joan Mir missed the whole practice sessions of San Marino GP due to illness but luckily, he struggled to test on Monday. Although still far from pre-accident performance levels, Mir valued starting the assessment of new parts and providing feedback to the team.
As in the case of Marini, Mir was concerned with providing his team with essential information regarding their health status despite his health problems. This was a much-needed boost for HRC as they continued to refine their bike, this was made possible by him finishing the test.
With both riders providing valuable feedback, the engineers will focus on the information gathered during the Misano test. Luca Marini and Mir’s focus shifts to recovery and preparing for the upcoming races. As both riders continue to push through physical challenges, their contributions to the development process remain vital for their teams’ progress heading into the next phase of the MotoGP season.
