LSU Tigers Lose Star Linebacker For The Season After Devastating Knee Injury

LSU Tigers Football Helmet Harold Perkins Jr.

The LSU Tigers have rebounded nicely after their opening-week loss to the USC Trojans. They had a gutsy win at South Carolina and then rode a strong second half to beat the UCLA Bruins. Their quest for a spot in the College Football Playoff got much harder. Star linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. left the game on Saturday with a knee injury. The program hoped for good news, but their worst fears were confirmed on Sunday. The former five-star recruit will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

LSU Tigers Harold Perkins Jr. Out For The Season

Harold Perkins Jr. has been a force on the field ever since he made his debut for the LSU Tigers in 2022. In his freshman season, he racked up 13 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. The talented linebacker tied the school record with four sacks in one game. He followed that up with 5.5 sacks in 2023. While it has not been confirmed, his knee injury is believed to be a torn ACL, making it impossible for him to return in the 2024 season.

Perkins Jr. will look toward the 2025 NFL Draft, where he was projected to be a late first-round pick. It is unclear how much this will affect his draft stock. Before the injury, it was a foregone conclusion, he would declare. Now, he might decide to come back for another year. If he doesn’t like where he is being projected, he could decide to return to the LSU Tigers for another year. The good news for him personally is he should have time to heal before the draft season begins.

Looking Ahead

The LSU Tigers will have plenty of high-powered offenses to try and stop for the rest of the season. On October 12th, Ole Miss comes to town, and they have been lighting up the scoreboard so far this season. Alabama also comes to Baton Rouge later in the season. Stopping Jalen Milroe is never an easy task. Harold Perkins Jr. will be sorely missed in these matchups. Still, the season is not completely lost. Football often has a next-man-up mentality. Teams experience injuries all the time and have to figure out how to fill the holes.

The LSU Tigers offense has looked good this season. They have put up over 30 points in three straight games. Head coach Brian Kelly will likely have to lean on the offense a little more for the rest of the season. No matter what team you cheer for, injuries are always devastating. Hopefully, Perkins Jr. will be able to make a full recovery and get back on the field soon.
