Los Angeles Dodgers Looking To Reverse History In 2024 World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to reverse history in the 2024 World Series.

Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers are heading to The Bronx up 2-0 in the 2024 World Series, history is not on their side. These teams have faced off 11 times in the World Series. In the last two meetings(1978 and 1981) the team which took a 2-0 series lead went on to lose the World Series. In 1978, Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead but lost the final four games to the New York Yankees. Los Angeles, as they do this season, had home-field advantage.

The 1981 edition of the “Fall Classic” was the inverse of the 1978 World Series. New York won Games 1 and 2 at home before losing in six games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Teams that have taken a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven postseason series have won the series 77 of 92 times. This fact should give the Dodgers comfort, but the Yankees are no stranger to a World Series comeback. The last team to come back from an 0-2 deficit in the World Series was the New York Yankees in 1996 against the Atlanta Braves. Will the Los Angeles Dodgers be able to buck history against the New York Yankees this year?

Los Angeles Dodgers Played Well At Home

The Los Angeles Dodgers took a 2-0 series lead at Dodgers Stadium thanks to timely hitting and solid pitching. Los Angeles stole Game 1 thanks to a walk-off grand slam by First Baseman Freddie Freeman. It was the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history. Los Angeles won Game 2 due to a strong performance by their pitching staff. Starting Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto surrendered one earned run over 6.1 innings of work.

LA’s offense, unlike how they performed in the NLCS against the New York Mets has not been unstoppable. They are 1-of-11 with RISP over the first two games of the World Series. Unfortunately for the Yankees, they have awful this series with RISP. They are 2-of-14, and the lack of clutch hitting has them heading home down 0-2. New York had a chance to possibly head home with a split but left the bases loaded to end the game.

Conclusion

After hurting his shoulder in Game 2 on Saturday, Designated Hitter Shohei Ohtani will be playing tonight. Ohtani and Aaron Judge, the players who will win the NL and AL MVP respectively this season, have not played up to their lofty standards during the World Series. They will both look to put together a better performance over the remainder of the series.

The New York Yankees need a win tonight to avoid going down 3-0. Even though New York is familiar with a 0-3 comeback, they cannot rely on that to happen this season. Even though history does not favor the Los Angeles Dodgers, they are in a great position heading into three games at Yankee Stadium. The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to ensure that history does not repeat itself in the third straight Yankees-Dodgers World Series matchup.
