Los Angeles Angels Starting Pitcher Davis Daniel had a debut to remember last night at home against the Detroit Tigers. He tossed eight scoreless innings while striking out eight. He also surrendered four hits over eight innings of work. The Los Angeles Angels cruised to a 5-0 win behind a stellar start from Davis. Los Angeles slugged three home runs last night on the way to victory.
The Angels got the scoring start in the bottom of the second, they added another run in the bottom of the fourth, and three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Los Angeles has played much better as of late winning four games in a row and five of their last six. They swept a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics before taking the first game of their series with the Detroit Tigers.
Davis was understandably thrilled with how his first start went:
“It was incredible. It was fun…The offense hit a couple of big homers to help propel us and some good defense behind me. I just felt like everything was rolling.”
Will Davis Daniel be able to carry this momentum into his next start?

Daniel was not a highly-touted prospect entering the 2024 MLB season. He was named the No. 26 prospect in the farm system of the Los Angeles Angels during the MLB Offseason. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Auburn. The Minor League career of Daniel included several accolades like NWL Pitcher of the Week, NWL Pitcher of the Month, PCL Pitcher of the Month, and many other awards.
Davis Daniel received a call-up to the big leagues and faired well in three appearances in September of 2023. He went 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA.
Los Angeles Angels Season Summary
The Angels(34-46) are in fourth place in the American League West. They sit seven games back of the third and final American League Wild Card spot. The Los Angeles offense has been average this season. They are 19th in batting average, 13th in home runs, and 21st in runs scored. Their offense is led by Third Baseman Luis Rengifo and Left Fielder Taylor Ward. Rengifo is fourth in the league with a batting average of .312 while Ward leads the team in both home runs and RBI with 14 and 41 respectively.
Center Fielder Mike Trout has been sidelined since April 29 with a meniscus injury. The pitching staff of the Los Angeles Angels has struggled in the first half of the 2024 season. They are 27th in ERA, 27th in strikeouts, and 18th in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Tyler Anderson leads the team with seven wins and is also eighth in the league with an ERA of 2.63.
When Will Davis Daniel Take The Mound Again?
The next scheduled start for Daniel has yet to be announced. It is not a foregone conclusion he will remain in the big leagues for an extended period even after such a strong first career start. The IL is chalked full of Angels starting pitching, so Daniel will continue to have a role with the team this season.
The Los Angeles Angels play the second game of their four-game set tonight against the Detroit Tigers. Los Angeles visits the Oakland Athletics for a three-game set beginning next week. Regardless of what the Los Angeles Angels decide to do with Daniel in the near future, he had a debut he will not soon forget.
